Clinical Research Coordinator I - Part Time 22.5 Hours (Dr Zhang's Lab) - Liver

The Clinical Research Coordinator I is a human subject’s researcher responsible for conducting and supporting clinical research studies under the supervision of the Principal Investigator or senior clinical research staff. Responsibilities include obtaining informed consent, and collecting, maintaining, and organizing study information. The Coordinator also assists with the preparation and submission of research documents to the Institutional Review Board and the Grants and Contracts Office.

This position supports an NIH-funded randomized clinical trial evaluating a whole-food dietary intervention in adults with metabolic dysfunction–associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). The study is a multi-timepoint randomized crossover trial involving liver imaging, biospecimen collection for microbiome and metabolomics analysis, and patient-reported outcomes. The position offers hands-on experience across all aspects of a federally funded clinical trial and is well suited to a candidate interested in nutrition, the gut microbiome, or translational liver research prior to graduate or medical training.

Responsibilities

• Conducts routine and standardized human subjects research using appropriate research or interview techniques specific to subject matter of the research project, under direct supervision of the Principal Investigator or senior clinical research staff.

• Assists in the activities related to clinical research including, but not limited to: obtaining informed consent, screening participants for eligibility, administering questionnaires and dietary assessments, scheduling study visits, and answering telephone calls.

• Assists with coordination of study visits and liver imaging appointments, including confirmation of imaging safety screening and participant preparation for fasting visits.

• Assists in the collection, analysis and review of experimental data for publication and presentation. Enters and maintains study data in REDCap and performs routine data quality checks.

• Maintains source documents and subject files in accordance with Mount Sinai policies and procedures. Ensures accurate, confidential and complete compilation of data.

• Secures, processes, and ships clinical specimens as required by the protocol, including blood, stool, and oral specimens, with attention to time-sensitive handling requirements, chain of custody, and −80°C storage.

• Assists with participant retention activities and monitoring of intervention adherence.

• Assists with maintenance of the study regulatory binder and preparation of Institutional Review Board submissions, amendments, and continuing reviews. May assist in the preparation for regulatory agency site visits.

• Performs other related duties.

Qualifications

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Science or closely related field.
• No experience required. One year of research experience preferred.

Preferred:

• Master's degree in epidemiology, nutrition, public health, or a related field

• Prior clinical research, laboratory, or biospecimen handling experience

• Familiarity with REDCap or other electronic data capture systems

• Coursework or experience in nutrition, microbiome science, epidemiology, or a related field

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

• Strong computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft Excel

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

• Bilingual English/Spanish
