Schedule: Part-time, Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–1:00 PM
Compensation: Hourly, $15/hour
Reports to: Lead K/1 Teacher

Who We Are

The Morgan Oliver School for Anti-Racism (MOS) is a small, progressive K–8 independent school in Atlanta built on the belief that children deserve to see themselves — fully and honestly — in the history, literature, and world they're learning about. We're a Reggio Emilia– and Montessori-influenced, restorative, anti-racist learning community, organized into four cohorts: Allies, Activists, Organizers, and Liberators. We're a small school by design — small enough that every adult in the building knows every child by name, and every child feels genuinely seen.

About the Role

Our K/1 classroom is looking for a paraprofessional who wants to be a real partner in the room — not just an extra set of hands, but someone who genuinely cares about how young children learn to read, think, and belong in community with each other. You'll work directly alongside our Lead K/1 Teacher to keep the classroom running smoothly and to give our youngest learners the small-group attention that makes a real difference at this age.

This is a hands-on, relationship-first role in a small, progressive, anti-racist school community. You'll get to know every child in the room well — which is exactly the point.

What You'll Do

• Support the classroom teacher with preparation, organization, and materials management so the room is ready for whatever the day requires
• Meet with small groups to lead mini-lessons — things like building words, phonics practice, and other foundational literacy work
• Feel comfortable leading small-group or whole-class math instruction, and be open to completing Math in Focus training during our professional development week
• Help maintain the rhythms and routines that make our classroom feel safe, structured, and joyful for young children
• Attend two faculty meetings per month (held weekly, Thursdays 3:30–5:00 PM)
• Attend the full professional development week, August 3–7, 7:30 AM–3:30 PM

What We're Looking For

We're not looking for a resume that just checks boxes. We're looking for someone who:

• Thinks carefully about young children — not just what they need to learn, but who they're becoming
• Finds early literacy genuinely interesting, and gets real satisfaction from watching a child crack the code of reading
• Brings warmth and steadiness to a classroom, not just classroom management skills
• Is comfortable with ambiguity and the reality that small schools ask people to hold more than one thing at once
• Believes in anti-racist, restorative education — not just familiar with the language, but ready to practice it daily
• Works well under the supervision of a lead teacher and collaborates
• Strong Communication Skills

Qualifications

• Experience working with early elementary-age children (K/1 preferred)
• Comfort with foundational literacy instruction (phonics, word-building, or similar)
• Willingness to lead math instruction and complete Math in Focus training
• Familiarity with progressive or child-centered classroom approaches (Reggio Emilia, Montessori, or similar) a plus, not required
• CPR/First Aid certification a plus
• Spanish proficiency a plus
