Claims Specialist - Litigation

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Claims Specialist - Litigation based in United States.

This role serves as a subject matter expert responsible for managing complex, high-exposure liability claims from investigation through resolution.
You will oversee litigated claims involving significant financial exposure, complex coverage matters, catastrophic injuries, and other challenging liability scenarios.
The position combines technical claims expertise, legal analysis, negotiation, financial oversight, and relationship management.
You will work closely with insureds, agents, internal stakeholders, panel counsel, and other external partners to develop effective litigation strategies.
A key focus is achieving timely, professional claim resolutions while maintaining accurate reserves, controlling expenses, and delivering strong customer service.
You will also participate in mediations and trials, prepare large-loss reports, and provide guidance on complex coverage and settlement matters.
The role is based in the United States, with remote work potentially available for highly qualified candidates outside commuting distance of designated offices.

Accountabilities:

• Manage litigated and other complex or high-exposure liability claims through coverage analysis, investigation, damage evaluation, reserving, negotiation, and resolution.
• Handle claims routinely involving exposures of $500,000 or more, including complex coverage issues, catastrophic bodily injuries, personal and advertising injuries, and employment practices liability.
• Develop and execute detailed action plans designed to move cases toward timely and cost-effective resolution.
• Build strong working relationships with panel counsel and collaborate on efficient litigation strategies and approaches.
• Prepare and present large-loss reports for significant claims and exposures.
• Establish and maintain timely, accurate claim and expense reserves in accordance with established guidelines.
• Negotiate and communicate claim settlements within designated authority limits.
• Attend and participate in mediations, trials, and other litigation-related proceedings.
• Draft denial letters, Reservation of Rights letters, and other complex claims correspondence.
• Maintain an effective diary system and ensure all claim file activities are accurately documented and compliant with established procedures.
• Manage claim inventory to support timely resolution and appropriate prioritization of cases.
• Ensure claims are handled in accordance with applicable state regulations and requirements.
• Provide responsive, professional service to insureds, agents, internal stakeholders, and other customers.
• Complete required administrative activities, including document preparation, expense reporting, time-off reporting, and other assigned tasks.
• Identify opportunities to control litigation expenses while maintaining appropriate claim outcomes and service standards.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 10 years of experience handling significant litigation claims, including claims with exposures of $500,000 or more.
• Proven ability to identify and analyze coverage issues, conduct thorough investigations, assess exposure, establish appropriate reserves, and develop detailed claim action plans.
• Strong knowledge of tort and contract law.
• Demonstrated experience managing complex litigated claims and working effectively with defense counsel.
• Excellent negotiation, interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Strong organizational and time-management abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple complex claims and competing priorities.
• Effective presentation skills, including the ability to communicate claim exposure, strategy, and recommendations clearly to stakeholders.
• Working knowledge of legal billing systems, claims management platforms, spreadsheets, word processing applications, and related business software.
• Self-directed and capable of working independently with limited supervision while exercising sound professional judgment.
• Active adjuster licenses in Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee, or the ability to obtain the required licenses within 90 days of hire.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
• Ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders throughout the claims and litigation lifecycle.
• Ability to work in a role requiring strong attention to detail, regulatory compliance, documentation, and financial accuracy.
