The League of Women Voters of Washington (LWVWA) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to empowering voters and defending democracy. Since 1920, the League has educated voters, encouraged informed civic participation, and advocated for public policies that strengthen representative government. We are a trusted source of nonpartisan election information, civic education, and advocacy, serving communities across Washington through a statewide organization with 20 local Leagues with over 3100 members and volunteers. We are part of the national League of Women Voters organization. The League does not support or oppose political parties or candidates. Instead, we work to ensure that every Washington resident has access to accurate information, meaningful opportunities to participate in our democracy, and a government that is accountable to the people it serves.

Position Summary

The League of Women Voters seeks a mission-driven, highly organized Program Manager to lead our civic learning program based on the League-developed series of textbooks: The State We’re In: Washington (TSWI). The position manages all aspects of the program, including textbook promotion, sales and fulfillment, and new product development. The Program Manager builds partnerships and connects with educators across the state to understand curriculum needs and ensure our books meet those needs.

The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and skilled program and relationship manager who can work independently, while empowering a dedicated network of volunteers and partners.

The Civic Learning Manager reports to the Executive Director. This is a new position—part-time to start. May be expanded to full-time depending on program growth.

While applicants may apply from any location, the chosen candidate must reside in Washington State by their start date, at their own expense.

Essential Responsibilities

Program Strategy & Implementation

• Develop and execute annual work plans to expand sales and use of the LWVWA suite of textbooks and related resources: The State We’re In Washington (TSWI). Track program performance and provide updates to leadership and Board of Directors.
• Develop and sustain successful relationships with educators, curriculum managers, and other current TSWI partners. Identify and secure new clients.
• Strengthen and sustain League relationships with strategic partners, including the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI), the State Board of Education, and Washington State School Directors Association (WSSDA)
• Build strategic communications and outreach plan. Develop messaging and marketing materials to communicate value and expand use.
• Develop plan to keep materials lively and relevant, including updates to textbooks, teacher guides, and supplemental materials and methods.
• Develop plan to support educators using these materials. May include trainings and activities.
• Ensure all programming is accessible, inclusive, and reflective of community needs.

Volunteer Leadership & Support

• Manage the work of the TSWI Civic Education Committee team of League volunteers, in coordination with the board Civic Education Portfolio Lead.
• Recruit, train, and support Local League volunteers to advance program goals.

Program Operations & Reporting

• Track program expenses and support budget management.
• Monitor sales and fulfillment.
• Update product listings and descriptions as needed.
• Collect and analyze data to measure program impact and community reach.
• Manage relationships with suppliers. Track and monitor inventory levels. Respond as needed to guarantee timely and accurate order fulfillment.
• Explore new or emerging distribution and printing technologies.
• Coordinate with LWVWA Education Fund Treasurer to ensure timely payment.
• Support grant-seeking and related reporting as needed.

Required:

• 4+ years of professional experience in K–12 education, educational publishing or sales, curriculum or instructional materials, or related field.
• Demonstrated knowledge of how K–12 schools and districts evaluate, approve, purchase, and adopt textbooks, curriculum, or other instructional materials.
• Demonstrated ability to adhere strictly to nonpartisan standards in programming and public communications.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking for diverse audiences.
• Experience applying a diversity, equity, and inclusion lens to program design and community engagement.
• Strong organizational and analytical skills, including experience tracking program impact and managing budgets.
• Excellent interpersonal, persuasive communication and consensus-building skills, with sound professional judgment in politically sensitive environments.

Preferred

• Strong understanding of Washington State civic education standards.
• Experience working within a nonprofit environment. Experience with, or knowledge of the League of Women Voters.
• Experience recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers.
• Proficiency with Microsoft suite of tools and Zoom virtual platform. Knowledge of SharePoint and Shopify a plus.
• Proficiency in Spanish, including the ability to engage with Spanish-language materials and resources used in the role.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a non-exempt, salaried, part-time (25 hour per week) position with a salary range of $35,000– $40,000. Benefits include a monthly medical/dental stipend; 10 paid holidays; 2 floating holidays; 6 days of paid sick and safe time; and 6 days of paid time off, increasing with tenure, and membership in the League of Women Voters. Some flexibility with work schedule, with some evenings and weekend work.

Position can be remote with the opportunity to access a physical office in the Seattle area.
