Chinese Community Admissions Liaison

Wise School is a Jewish elementary school that welcomes students and families from diverse cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. Families are not required to be Jewish to apply for or attend the school.

This position does not require the successful candidate to be Jewish. However, as a representative of the Wise School, the candidate must demonstrate professionalism, respect for the values of our faith and our mission, and a commitment to modeling and supporting the core values and guiding principles of Jewish education in all interactions with students, families, colleagues, and the community.

The primary qualifications for this role are the ability to communicate effectively in Mandarin and English, build relationships within Mandarin-speaking communities, and support prospective families throughout the admissions process.

The Chinese Community Admissions Liaison serves as a bridge between the school and prospective families by providing bilingual admissions support in Mandarin and English, fostering relationships with community organizations, and assisting families throughout the admissions process. The ideal candidate possesses excellent communication skills, strong cultural competency, and a passion for helping families learn about the school's educational programs and community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Serve as a bilingual admissions liaison for Mandarin-speaking prospective students and their families throughout the admissions and enrollment process.
• Conduct or assist with informational meetings, campus tours, and admissions consultations in both Mandarin and English.
• Accurately communicate admissions requirements, application procedures, enrollment timelines, and school information.
• Develop and maintain relationships with Chinese community organizations, cultural associations, educational consultants, preschools, and other community partners that serve Mandarin-speaking families.
• Represent the school at community events, educational fairs, cultural events, and other outreach opportunities.
• Assist families by providing culturally responsive guidance throughout the application and enrollment process.
• Collaborate with the Admissions and Marketing teams to develop Mandarin-language marketing materials, digital content, and outreach initiatives.
• Maintain accurate records of prospective family interactions using the school's admissions systems.
• Track outreach activities, community engagement efforts, and related admissions metrics.
• Promote awareness of the school's educational programs, mission, and community through outreach and public relations efforts within Mandarin-speaking communities throughout the Los Angeles area.
• As a key staff member in our religious educational institution, you will serve as a role model of our faith’s tenets, demonstrating them daily to our members and the broader Temple community. This position plays a vital role in transmitting the expectations and values of our faith, ensuring that the Temple continues to minister effectively to the needs of our students and members.

Required Qualifications

• Fluency in Mandarin Chinese and English, including spoken and written communication.
• Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
• Demonstrated cultural competency and the ability to communicate effectively with Mandarin-speaking families from diverse backgrounds.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
• Proficiency with social media platforms and digital communication tools.
• Ability to work a flexible part-time schedule, including occasional evenings or weekends for community events.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in admissions, enrollment, education, community outreach, marketing, or a related field.
• Experience working with Chinese immigrant or Chinese diaspora communities.
• Familiarity with WeChat and other communication platforms commonly used by Mandarin-speaking communities.
• Experience translating or adapting written materials between Mandarin and English.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to travel locally throughout the Los Angeles area for meetings and community events.
• Ability to stand and walk during school events, campus tours, and outreach activities.
• Must Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for extended periods.
• Manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other standard office equipment.
• Occasionally required to stand, walk, reach, or bend.
• May need to lift and carry items up to [10–25 lbs], such as files or office supplies.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with team members and clients, in person and via phone or video.

This position requires proficiency in Mandarin and English because communicating effectively with Mandarin-speaking prospective families is an essential function of the role.
