Position Summary

The Substitute Teacher is responsible for maintaining a safe, engaging, and positive learning environment in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The substitute follows lesson plans, manages classroom behavior, and supports students' academic and social development while ensuring the school's policies and procedures are followed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Follow lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the regular teacher.
• Maintain a positive, respectful, and productive classroom environment.
• Supervise students throughout the school day, including during transitions, recess, lunch, and dismissal as assigned.
• Encourage student participation and engagement in classroom activities.
• Manage classroom behavior using established school policies and procedures.
• Take attendance and maintain accurate records as required.
• Communicate important information regarding the day's activities to the regular teacher.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of all students at all times.
• Collaborate professionally with school administrators, teachers, and staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required
• Previous experience working with children or in an educational setting is preferred.
• Strong classroom management and communication skills.
• Ability to adapt quickly to different grade levels and classroom environments.
• Reliable, punctual, and professional.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate sound judgment.
• Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds when necessary.
• Ability to supervise students indoors and outdoors.
• Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.
• Part-time, on-call position.
• Workdays and hours vary based on school needs.

Compensation is based on experience and school policy.

Work Environment

The Substitute Teacher works in a school setting and may be assigned to various grade levels and subject areas. Flexibility and a positive attitude are essential to ensuring continuity of instruction and a supportive learning environment.
