The Childcare Assistant supports the Play-Based Childcare Center by assisting with age-appropriate activities and implementing curriculum. They are also responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment while ensuring the well-being and guidance of the children.
Job Description
Position Title: Childcare Assistant
Status: Part-time to full time, hourly, overtime eligible
Organizational Relationships: Reports to Director of Mari's Place and Childcare Administrative Staff

- Work independently while understanding the necessity for communication and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations
Position Purpose
Work closely with the staff of our Play-Based Childcare Center to support center activities.
Responsibilities and Duties performed personally or through subordinate employees or volunteers:
- Be responsible to assist with an assigned age group of children. Assignment may change daily, depending on the population of the group.
- Help implement curriculum as indicated by the Classroom Teacher
- Help manage children as indicated in the child guidance policy.
- Report any problems to the Director.
- Report any suspected child abuse to the Director.
- Help ensure that the classrooms are clean, safe and attractive.
- Help serve meals and snacks.
- Complete other duties or tasks assigned by the Classroom Teacher.
Qualifications: Must be 18 years or older, Oregon Central Background Registry Number, Food Handler's card, current CPR and First Aid training, and have the following online courses required by the Oregon Early Learning Division: Introduction to Child Care Health and Safety, Prevention is Better Than Treatment, Safe Sleep for Infants and Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect.
Special Position Requirements:
- Must meet physical ability of maneuvering 25 lbs, kneeling, bending and sitting on the floor to attend to a child's needs.
- Commitment to the goals of our social service agency and to be an advocate for our mission and our clients
- Ability to interact positively and in a non-judgmental way with parents and children
- Ability to interact gently and supportively with children
