A Brief Overview
 

This role serves as a key member of the entity's Executive Leadership Team and acts as the primary liaison between administration and medical staff to foster collaboration and ensure high-quality patient care. The position provides strategic leadership in physician alignment, quality improvement, patient safety, and compliance with regulatory standards. 

The position is structured as a 0.5 FTE administrative leadership role and a 0.5 FTE clinical practice role, requiring the incumbent to balance executive responsibilities with direct clinical engagement.

Responsibilities include guiding operational and economic planning, supporting clinical integration initiatives, and representing the organization within the community. The role also partners with leadership on governance, medical staff engagement, and strategic planning to drive organizational performance. Due to the nature of these responsibilities—such as direct interaction with medical staff, participation in committees, and community representation—regular on-site presence is essential to effectively fulfill the duties of this position.

What You Will Do
 

• Liaison: Functions as part of the entity’s Executive Leadership Team. Serves as a liaison between administration and the medical staff creating a positive and progressive climate for interaction between the two. Assists the Medical Executive Committee, medical staff committees and department chairs in carrying out their functions to ensure the provision of high-quality care. Designs and implements a robust communication strategy to align local medical staff. Represents the facility in the community, as requested.
• Ensures High-Quality, Patient Safety and Compliance: Facilitates physician alignment activities, including quality improvement and outcomes management, resource management and clinical effectiveness to ensure the highest quality of care and compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements. Partners with the facility Chief Nursing Officer to provide leadership and guidance as it pertains to quality, patient safety and compliance initiatives with focus on outcomes management benchmarking and best practices. Influences changes as needed to meet facility and system goals. Ensures compliance with the Peer Review Program as well as the on-going professional practice evaluations (OPPE) and focused professional practice evaluation (FPPE) programs.
• Strategic Leader: Participates in the facility strategic planning process and provides direction and guidance to ensure execution of the plan while driving organizational performance. Ensures appropriate medical staff involvement in policy development, strategic planning and programmatic initiatives. Participates in Medical Educations programs. Participates in the physician recruitment process. Partners with the entity President to drive the physician retention strategy.
• Operational and Economic Planning: Ensures appropriate operational and economic planning that enhances the quality of care and attains the financial results necessary to vitalize the organization. Participates in the evaluation and promotion of major equipment, technology and construction projects related to patient care management. Develops and maintains assigned budgets.
• Clinical Integration: Directs efforts for the development of the clinically integrated network within the organization in order to move forward with the Population Heath Program as designed by the organization. Serves as the liaison for all initiatives around the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) that involve the physicians and clinical initiatives.
• Governance: Reports to the entity Board of Directors, as requested. Partners with the President of the Medical Staff in overseeing the proper conduct of the medical staff members in accordance with the entity Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations. Facilitates Bylaws and Rules and Regulations changes through the approval process to the Governing Body. Participates in the development and implementation of on-going educational programs that advance the quality of care delivery and service excellence. Participates on committees, as assigned. Serves as a resource for credentialing and privileging matters.

• Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.

Education

• Doctorate Degree in Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine (Required)
• Master's Degree in Business or Health Care Administration (Preferred)

Work Experience

• 8+ years of experience in the practice of medicine (Required)

Licenses and Certifications

• Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathy with an unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Ohio. (Required)
• Maintenance of Board Certification in clinical specialty (Required)
• Certification as a Physician Executive or Healthcare Executive (Preferred)
