Overview

In this hands-on role, you’ll play an important part in keeping our terminal and stevedoring operations safe, accurate, and efficient. You’ll monitor, count, verify, and document cargo movements across vessel, warehouse, and trucking operations while helping ensure cargo is properly handled, accounted for, and documented throughout the process.

The Checker records cargo quantities, observes cargo condition, identifies visible damage or irregularities, verifies information against shipping and operational documents, and promptly reports discrepancies to the appropriate supervisor. The position may also assist with general terminal and labor activities as needed to support overall operational efficiency and safety.

This is a casual position, offering the opportunity to work in a dynamic terminal environment with assignments based on operational needs, vessel schedules, cargo volumes, and available work. Responsibilities

What your day looks like as a Checker:

• Accurately count and record cargo during loading, unloading, and movement operations.
• Verify cargo quantities, types, and identifying information against operational documents.
• Inspect cargo for visible damage, shortages, or discrepancies and document findings.
• Maintain accurate records and complete required paperwork or electronic documentation.
• Communicate cargo counts, conditions, damages, and discrepancies to supervisors.
• Assist with vessel, warehouse, and trucking operations as directed.
• Perform general labor duties when needed to support terminal operations.
• Follow all company safety procedures, policies, and operational guidelines.
• Maintain accuracy and attention to detail in a fast-paced terminal environment.
• Work effectively with supervisors, equipment operators, truck drivers, vessel personnel, and other team members.

Qualifications

To succeed as a Checker you must have:

• Previous experience in a terminal, warehouse, shipping, stevedoring, or similar environment is preferred.
• Ability to accurately count, record, and verify information.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
• Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to perform physical work and assist with general labor duties as needed.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, or overtime as operational needs require.
• Must be able to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) card.
