Chatbot Developer – Conversational AI

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Chatbot Developer – Conversational AI based in the United States.

As a Chatbot Developer – Conversational AI, you will design, develop, and optimize enterprise-grade conversational experiences across multiple digital channels.
You will help bridge established natural language understanding technologies with modern generative AI and autonomous agent frameworks.
The role combines conversational design, backend development, enterprise integration, AI orchestration, and production deployment.
You will work extensively across the Microsoft conversational technology ecosystem while contributing to the evolution of next-generation AI architectures.
Your work will connect conversational interfaces with enterprise platforms and deliver seamless, contextual experiences at scale.
You will collaborate with product, UX, and business stakeholders to transform complex requirements into intuitive and effective user journeys.
This is a 9-month, fully remote contract opportunity for professionals authorized to work within the United States.

Accountabilities

• Lead the full lifecycle development of scalable chatbots, virtual assistants, and AI agents, from conversational design and development through testing and production deployment.

• Maintain and optimize existing Azure Bot Framework SDK v4 implementations while contributing to the migration toward Microsoft Foundry and Agents 365 Azure SDK technologies.

• Design and implement enterprise API integrations using MuleSoft as the central service layer for exchanging data between conversational applications and backend platforms.

• Integrate conversational experiences with enterprise systems such as PeopleSoft and Salesforce.

• Develop rich, dynamic conversational interfaces using Microsoft Dynamics Adaptive Cards, knowledge management capabilities, and automation workflows across web, mobile, and messaging channels.

• Build escalation and handoff workflows that connect users with live agents through Salesforce Live Chat and route cases through Salesforce Case Management APIs.

• Implement hybrid AI strategies that combine Azure Conversational Language Understanding (CLU) with Azure OpenAI and GPT-based capabilities.

• Develop intelligent intent routing, fallback mechanisms, contextual responses, and generative content while maintaining appropriate controls around AI behavior and hallucinations.

• Analyze conversation logs, intent accuracy, containment rates, user drop-off points, and other performance indicators to continuously improve conversational experiences.

• Collaborate with Product Managers, UX Designers, technical teams, and business stakeholders to translate complex business requirements into effective conversational journeys and user stories.

• Contribute to architectural decisions, modernization initiatives, and the transition from traditional conversational systems toward autonomous agent frameworks.

• Support reliable deployment and operation of conversational assets across development, testing, and production environments.

• Help ensure conversational applications remain scalable, maintainable, secure, and aligned with enterprise integration requirements.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of dedicated software development experience with a focus on Conversational AI, NLP/NLU, LLM-based applications, or AI agent development.

• Deep hands-on experience with Azure Bot Framework SDK v4, including Waterfall Dialogs, custom middleware, and state management.

• Experience with, or strong theoretical knowledge of, Copilot Studio and Agents 365.

• Advanced programming skills in C#, .NET, and JavaScript.

• Frontend development capabilities using HTML and CSS, particularly for custom web-chat experiences and Adaptive Card rendering.

• Direct experience integrating enterprise systems through MuleSoft, including data exchange with platforms such as PeopleSoft and Salesforce.

• Strong understanding of enterprise integration architectures and API-driven application development.

• Experience with Azure Cosmos DB for conversation state, user context, telemetry, or related application data is preferred.

• Familiarity with Power BI or Azure Application Insights for analyzing conversational performance, including drop-off points, intent confusion, containment rates, and other behavioral metrics is preferred.

• Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for conversational applications and assets across development, testing, and production environments is preferred.

• Experience implementing conversational AI solutions within higher education or complex, multi-stakeholder enterprise environments is a plus.

• Strong understanding of conversational AI, NLU, LLM orchestration, dialog management, and enterprise chatbot architectures.

• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical AI concepts, limitations, and implementation considerations to non-technical stakeholders.

• Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical, product, design, and business teams.

• Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment while balancing technical quality, user experience, business requirements, and delivery timelines.

• Must be available for a 9-month contract and meet the role's U.S.-based work requirements.
