Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant

Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (“COTA”) to provide quality care to our patients. Under the direction of a registered Occupational Therapist, the COTA helps plan and implement patient treatment, plan and coordinate patient discharge, and prepare detailed progress reports and appropriate patient documentation. Treatments will include training in daily living activities, functional skills, motor development, compensation techniques, use of adaptive equipment and splinting. The COTA will not be expected to perform patient evaluations.  The COTA will continually collaborate with the rehab team in order to coordinate the most effective occupational therapy program.

Responsibilities and Duties

Essential Responsibilities and Expectations

Under the direction of a registered Occupational Therapist:

Determine patients’ treatment needs
Participate in patient assessment, including providing information to the Occupational Therapist for analysis
Provide patient treatment and services, as recommended by the Occupational Therapist
Ensure treatment programs meet patients’ needs
Recommend termination of services or treatment, as necessary

Report to Clinical Director or Administrator
Treat patients according to the treatment plan written by the Occupational Therapist
Communicate regularly with supervisor, other members of the rehabilitation team, and family regarding patient treatment plan, progress, and prognosis
Record evaluations, daily treatment notes, re-assessments, and discharge summaries per Company policy and procedure
Complete all required documentation from your daily treatments/interventions prior to leaving the facility
Educate patient families and caregivers in treatment and any applicable maintenance programs
Participate in discharge planning
Submit all billing and necessary information prior to leaving the facility
Report any problem areas/equipment within each facility to the appropriate supervisor immediately
Comply with State Licensing Board of California, Title 22, CMS, and California Labor Board guidelines
Comply with Company rules, policies and procedures
Comply with all applicable safety rules, policies, and procedures
Report to work regularly and on-time

Additional Responsibilities and Expectations

Be willing and able to act as a Mentor for new OT/COTA or recently hired OT/COTA
Under the direction of a registered Occupational Therapist, provide necessary training and guidance to student interns as assigned, including:

Supervise level 1 and level 2 students regularly
Providing clearly defined, career-related (i.e., non-clerical) responsibilities and tasks in accordance with the students’ academic programs
Informing student interns about and ensuring their compliance with Company, facility, state, and federal guidelines
Completing any paperwork required by the Company or the students’ academic program
Providing clearly defined, career-related (i.e., non-clerical) responsibilities and tasks in accordance with the students’ academic programs
Informing student interns about and ensuring their compliance with Company, facility, state, and federal guidelines, and
Completing any paperwork required by the Company or the students’ academic program

Assumes other duties as assigned.

Ability to transfer or assist in transfer of up to 100 lbs.

Required

Licensed as a COTA in the State of California.
No current citation or probation listed on the Occupational Therapy Board of California.
Pass all Background Checks (eg. Criminal Offense, Sex offender Registry, etc.)

Health examination (Refer to Employee Handbook for details).
TB skin test or Chest X-ray (Refer to Employee Handbook for details).

A valid CPR certification.
Ability to gather and analyze information in a timely and skillful manner.

Workplace Environment

The COTA will primarily be working in our outpatient clinic. This is an active patient care environment. This environment has no hazardous Health and Safety exposures. However, Health and Safety precautions must be taken at all times.

Salary Range: $28.00 to $45.00
