Job Description:

CNA LICENSE REQUIRED UPON HIRE

Provides basic resident care under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse. Utilizes a resident centered approach based on resident centered principles to provide personal care and assistance with activities of daily living. The CNA/ Universal Worker provides each resident with routine daily nursing care and other desired services in accordance with the resident's assessment, choices, and care plan under the supervision of a licensed nurse to ensure the highest degree of quality of care is maintained at all times.

What you will do:

Resident Personal Care

• Bathes and dresses residents according to care plans and as needed, ensuring residents are properly and comfortably clothed.
• Combs hair, shaves residents, trims nails, and assists with personal and dental hygiene.
• Prepares residents for physician appointments and visitors.
• Assists with end-of-life care and postmortem care.
• Notes changes in skin condition and reports concerns to the nurse.
• Makes regular rounds to observe residents and identify changes in condition.
• Answers resident call lights and determines appropriate assistance.

Mobility, Positioning, and Rehabilitation

• Positions residents for comfort in bed and chair utilizing pressure reduction techniques and equipment as needed.
• Assists with lifting, turning, moving, positioning, and transporting residents into and out of:
  • Beds
  • Chairs
  • Wheelchairs (W/C)
  • Lifts
  • Showers
  • Tubs
  • Vehicles
• Carries out restorative and rehabilitative programs according to care plans.
• Instructs, guides, and assists residents in self-care activities and the use of medical appliances to maintain function.

Elimination and Incontinence Care

• Assists residents to and from the bathroom.
• Keeps incontinent residents clean and dry.
• Uses appropriate incontinence products as specified in the care plan.
• Provides perineal care according to care plans and as needed.
• Monitors genitourinary and gastrointestinal systems.
• Documents bowel output each shift, the presence of urinary appliances, and other observations as directed by a physician.

Dining and Nutrition Support

• Serves meals and ensures residents receive appropriate textured foods and fluids as ordered.
• Participates in sanitation procedures to maintain food safety at all times.
• Follows all dietary procedures in accordance with established policies.
• Promotes a positive dining experience and assists residents with eating as needed.
• Records meal and fluid intake.
• Provides clothing protectors as needed while maintaining resident dignity.

Resident Monitoring

• Weighs residents as ordered or based on nursing judgment.
• Obtains vital signs as needed.
• Monitors residents for pain during interactions and reports concerns to the nurse.

Environmental Safety and Housekeeping Support

• Addresses spills immediately to promote safety and notifies housekeeping for further intervention.
• Ensures resident rooms and common areas are clean and tidy.
• Wipes down countertops and sweeps under bar areas as needed.
• Keeps equipment stored appropriately when not in use.
• Monitors for trip hazards and other safety concerns.
• Ensures hand hygiene stations are functional and stocked with appropriate sanitation products.
• Ensures resident laundry is individually washed and dried according to the laundry schedule and on an as-needed basis.
• Cleans equipment, including:
  • Lifts
  • Wheelchairs
  • Walkers
  • Other resident care devices
• Performs equipment cleaning on a routine basis.

Resident Activities and Care Planning

• Participates in planning resident activities within the neighborhood.
• Participates in resident activities as able.
• Ensures residents are assisted to and from activities.
• Provides supervision for residents utilizing electronic wandering-monitoring devices while attending activities.
• Participates in quarterly care plan meetings.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience in the medical field Preferred
• Certified Nursing Assistant Iowa Direct Care Worker Registry (United States of America) Upon Hire Required and
• Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter - Iowa Department of Human Services Iowa Dept of Public Health (IDPH) (United States of America) within 180 Days Required and

Additional Requirements:

EFRC (Emergency First Responder Choking) required within 90 days upon hire and renewed every 2 years.
