CERT NURSE ASST

Overview

In accordance with the mission and philosophy of the AHMC Seton Medical Center,  under the direction of a Registered Nurse, ensure quality of patient care for all populations served from young adulthood to geriatrics on the age continuum, by meeting the nursing needs of the patient, physician, and patient’s family in full compliance with the Hospital’s quality assurance program.

Responsibilities

• Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, ensures on-going evaluation and reporting of the patient’s condition and needs in both Acute Care Units.
• Effectively execute medical staff directives and orders through the proper use of medical and nursing equipment and procedures under the direction of a Registered Nurse and consistent with nursing, safety, and Hospital quality assurance standards.  Such duties may include all aspects of basic nursing care as well as assisting in therapeutic and diagnostic procedures in the acute care setting. 
• Actively contribute to the total well being of the patient by keeping all team members informed of the patient’s status and providing suggestions regarding the patient’s status and maintaining an environment which is therapeutic and conducive to meeting the patient's needs.  Understand and practice team nursing.  Provide emotional support of the elderly patients by active listening and assisting them to participate in activities. 
• Ensure the quality of the nursing effort and the effectiveness of the treatment performed by staying abreast of changes in the field (e.g. participating in nursing education programs) and incorporating knowledge into the duties and responsibilities of the position.   
• Ensure nursing supplies and equipment are maintained by reporting any defects to Maintenance and removing equipment until fixed.  
• Ensure the AHMC Seton Medical Center mission, vision and values are reflected in carrying out the accountabilities of the position.  This involves participating in the annual update of the goals and being knowledgeable about actively communicating the Values to department staff members and clients of the department.  

Other duties and responsibilities:

• Knowledge to check the vital signs such as heart rate, pulse oximetry, blood pressure, respiratory rate, weight of the patients and report to the primary Nurse for any discrepancies.
• Able to identify any change of condition of the patient and report to the primary nurse or charge nurse immediately.
• Able to transport a patient to the Radiology department, Surgery  or any department that warrants assistance as needed.
• Able to transport the patient when they are being discharged.
• Able to assist with feeding and knowledge on the supplement calculator by percentage.
• Able to assist with activities of daily living(ADLs).
• Serves as a support for the Nursing and other departments.
• Able to be utilized as a sitter.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

• CNA certification is required, or must be a student nurse, or a foreign train RN.
• High School diploma or equivalent.

OTHER SKILLS, ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE and EXPERIENCE:

• Ability to understand and follow directions in the use of hospital equipment and handling of patients.
• Knowledge of basic nursing procedures, strength and coordination to lift at least 50 lbs, push, stand, walk, bend, reach, and squat during the 8 hour shift. 
• A minimum of six month experience performing similar duties is desired. 
• Requires patience and kindness in dealing with patients.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Verbal, interpersonal and quantitative skills typically acquired through management experience.
• Must obtain Workplace Violent and Sexual Harassment certification within 6 months, and then maintain current.
