The Celiac Disease Foundation is looking for dedicated professionals to join our Board of Directors. We need strategic thinkers and passionate advocates who want to play a hands-on role in accelerating research, shaping policy, and driving our mission forward. We are seeking board members interested in serving on our Development (fundraising) Committee or Advocacy & Communications Committee.

This is an active, governing board where your expertise will directly influence our growth.

What we look for in our Board Members:

• Strategic Leaders: Champions who will oversee organizational policies, serve on key committees and guide our long-term planning.
• Mission Ambassadors: Advocates who will promote our work in the community and help identify future board leadership talent.
• Resource Builders: Champions committed to ensuring our financial health through our annual $10,000 "Give-or-Get" policy, leveraging their networks to connect us with donors and corporate partners.

The Commitment:

• Active participation in quarterly board meetings and monthly committee meetings via webcam.
• Attendance at our annual in-person retreat (alternating between New York and California).
• High ethical standards, responsive collaboration with staff, and a dedication to continuous improvement.

GENERAL CONDUCT

• To act according to the highest legal and ethical standards of conduct and maintain the confidentiality of the Foundation’s private affairs.
• To review and comply with the bylaws and operating principles of the Foundation.
• To promote the Foundation in the community through advocacy and communication outreach efforts as directed and encouraged by the Foundation’s staff.

BOARD & COMMITTEE MEETINGS

• To attend and actively participate in all board meetings via webcam.
• To attend and actively participate in all committee meetings in which I am a member via webcam.
• To prepare for all board and committee meetings by reviewing the board website, downloading the materials, and reading them prior to each meeting.
• To attend in person and actively participate in an annual board retreat.
• To serve on at least one committee each year.
• To take an active role in establishing and overseeing the Foundation’s policies and procedures.
• To actively participate in strategic and development planning.
• To help identify and attract quality board members.
• To be fiscally responsible, and, along with other board members, ensure adequate resources for achieving the Foundation’s mission.

FUNDRAISING

• To donate a minimum of $10,000 per calendar year, an amount which may be given from my own resources or raised from others. This may be given as a one-time donation or through multiple contributions during the year. 
• To support fundraising and development efforts in the ways best suited to my abilities, which may include: calling large donors; making individual solicitations; making introductions to corporate or foundation prospects; undertaking special events; or providing guidance as asked.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

• To be available for phone or online consultation as needed.
• To respond to emails or calls from fellow board members or staff in a timely manner (within 24 hours).
• To participate and play an active role in Foundation events.
• To complete the Annual Board Self-Assessment and actively participate in the improvement process.
