Carson Springs Food Service Assistant

Position Description

The individual filling this position is responsible for contributing to the mission, vision, and ministries of the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board by fulfilling the following duties, functions, and responsibilities.

Title: Food Service Assistant Team: Conference Centers

Group: Mission Support Work Location: Conference Center

General Classification: Ministry Assistant (Non-Exempt) Part-time

Immediate Supervisor: Food Service Coordinator

Principal Function: Assist Food Service Coordinator in planning, preparing, and presenting food service for camp and conference center guests.

Essential Functions: (Employee must be spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally able to fulfill these assignments and tasks to fill this position.)

1. Conduct assigned ministry with “Christ-Like Servant Spirit”, guided by TBMB mission, priorities, strategies, and goals.

2. Contribute to all phases of responsibilities to the Mission and Objectives of the organization.

3. Exercise discipline to complete tasks and work alone with general supervision.

4. Provide support and assistance to assigned group and other groups within the organization, while building and maintaining positive working relationships.

5. Work overtime and irregular hours, as necessary.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

6. Prepare savory meals efficiently and in sufficient quantities to satisfy our guests and make them want to return for more.

7. Assist Food Service Coordinator with food inventory.

8. Ensure all health and safety standards are followed pertaining to the kitchen and dining room.

9. Effectively lead kitchen staff in temporary absence of Food Service Coordinator.

10. Perform all other duties as needed or assigned.

Physical Requirements for Individual in Position:

1. Frequently walks extended distances, stands, and sits, bends, squats, crawls, reaches, kneels, balances, pushes and pulls.

2. Frequently lifts and carries up to 34 pounds, occasionally lifts, and carries up to 50 pounds.

3. Continually uses manual dexterity and gross motor skills with frequent use of bi-manual dexterity and fine motor skills.

4. Position requires being around moving machinery and cooking equipment, exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity, and exposure to non-toxic aromas and gases.

5. Frequently spends time in food preparation, cooking, serving, and cleaning areas.

Preferred Qualifications for Applicants:

Credentials and experience:

1. Education: HS diploma or G.E.D. Some culinary training

2. Experience: One-year related experience

3. Certification: ServSafe food handler required (immediately upon employment)

Knowledge and Skills:

4. Understanding of kitchen equipment operation and safety; food preparation, food serving, food safety, and menu planning.

5. Knowledge of all Health Department rules and regulations pertaining to food preparation, storage of food, cleaning, and sanitation.

6. Ability to coordinate staff and serve large numbers of people.

7. Basic computer skills needed, Excel, internet, and food ordering system.
