Job Summary

The Carpenter fabricates, assembles, fits, and installs structural and light-gauge steel components used in prefabricated modular mechanical and electrical systems. This position works with structural steel, metal framing, metal studs, angle iron, channel, tubing, Unistrut, and related materials.

The Carpenter reads drawings, performs accurate layouts and measurements, operates fabrication equipment, and produces completed assemblies that meet project specifications, quality standards, and production schedules.

This is a fully on-site position. The employee will complete a minimum 90-day on-site training period at Epsilon Industries’ Tuscaloosa, Alabama facility and will receive a per diem of $500 per week during the training period. Upon completion of training, the position will transfer to and remain fully on-site at Epsilon Industries’ Oxford, Alabama facility.

Job Qualifications:

Education & Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• At least three years of experience in carpentry, steel fabrication, metal framing, structural steel, or a related skilled trade preferred.
• Equivalent experience demonstrating strong fabrication and mechanical skills may be considered.
• Manufacturing, fabrication, construction, or modular-construction experience preferred.

Technical Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, shop drawings, fabrication drawings, or blueprints.
• Ability to measure accurately using tape measures, squares, levels, and related tools.
• Strong understanding of layout, squaring, leveling, alignment, and fitting.
• Experience using common hand tools, power tools, saws, drills, and grinders.
• Basic knowledge of steel-fabrication and construction methods.
• Ability to safely handle and work with steel and metal products.
• Ability to identify dimensional or fabrication concerns.
• Basic mathematical skills involving measurements, fractions, dimensions, and angles.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with structural steel or light-gauge steel framing.
• Experience working from detailed shop or fabrication drawings.
• Experience with metal studs, Unistrut, angle iron, channel, and tubing.
• Welding or tack-welding experience.
• Experience with modular construction, prefabrication, or mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (“MEP”) assemblies.
• Experience operating saws, drill presses, grinders, and related fabrication equipment.
• Forklift, overhead-crane, or rigging experience.
• OSHA 10-Hour or other recognized construction or manufacturing safety training.

Effort (Physical & Sensory):

• Regular standing and walking for extended periods.
• Frequent bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, climbing, pushing, and pulling.
• Ability to lift and carry tools, materials, and components weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Team lifting or mechanical assistance is required for heavier or awkward materials.
• Frequent use of hand tools, power tools, fabrication equipment, and measuring devices.
• Ability to safely handle steel and other metal components.
• Ability to read drawings, measurements, material markings, and equipment controls.
• Ability to hear alarms, equipment, and verbal instructions.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment.

Working Conditions:

• Work is performed primarily in manufacturing, fabrication, sheet-metal, production, warehouse, and yard environments.
• Initial work and training will be performed in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, followed by permanent assignment to the Oxford, Alabama facility.
• Regular exposure to noise, dust, fumes, sparks, sharp edges, machinery, moving equipment, and varying temperatures.
• Required use of personal protective equipment in designated areas.
• Overtime, alternate shifts, early-morning work, or weekends may be required.
