Business Process Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Business Process Engineer based in United States.

Support the modernization of a federal financial and budget application by transforming complex business operations into streamlined, implementation-ready processes.
You will analyze current workflows, identify inefficiencies, and design optimized future-state processes, workflows, and service blueprints.
The role combines business process engineering, service design, stakeholder facilitation, and technical collaboration.
You will work closely with Business Analysts, subject matter experts, architects, developers, integration teams, and testers throughout the transformation lifecycle.
A key focus will be simplifying legacy practices while preserving essential business requirements, controls, and operational needs.
Your designs will directly guide platform configuration, development, testing, and implementation decisions.
This is a hands-on opportunity to help shape modern, user-centered solutions within a complex federal environment.

Accountabilities:

• Lead business process discovery and design through stakeholder interviews, workshops, observation, process walkthroughs, and collaborative design sessions.
• Analyze and document current-state processes, including activities, roles, handoffs, systems, data interactions, controls, dependencies, pain points, and exceptions.
• Design optimized future-state processes and workflows that improve efficiency, simplify operations, and address business requirements.
• Develop detailed service blueprints and workflow models that provide clear implementation guidance to platform development teams.
• Model process activities, decision points, approvals, roles, business rules, triggers, statuses, dependencies, exception paths, and escalation scenarios.
• Apply BPMN and service design methodologies to create consistent, structured, and implementation-ready process documentation.
• Map interactions between users, processes, data, systems, and supporting services across end-to-end workflows.
• Partner with Business Analysts and subject matter experts to ensure process designs accurately reflect federal financial processes, policies, controls, and operational requirements.
• Challenge unnecessary legacy practices and help stakeholders distinguish genuine business requirements from legacy system limitations or behaviors.
• Identify opportunities for process simplification, standardization, automation, and improved user experience.
• Collaborate with solution architects, developers, and integration teams to ensure future-state designs can be implemented effectively within configurable workflow platforms.
• Refine process designs based on technical feasibility, stakeholder feedback, testing outcomes, and evolving requirements.
• Support development and testing teams by clarifying process intent, workflow behavior, business rules, exception scenarios, and expected outcomes.
• Maintain accurate process and service-design artifacts throughout implementation and solution evolution.

Requirements:

• 7+ years of experience in Business Process Engineering, Service Design, Business Process Management, Process Improvement, or a related discipline supporting complex enterprise transformation or technology initiatives.
• Demonstrated experience designing future-state business processes and workflow-driven solutions, rather than solely documenting existing processes.
• Strong hands-on experience creating business process models, workflow diagrams, service blueprints, and related process artifacts.
• Experience applying Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) or comparable structured process-modeling methodologies.
• Experience modeling complex workflows involving roles, approvals, decision points, business rules, controls, handoffs, systems, data, exceptions, and alternate process paths.
• Ability to translate complex business operations into clear, detailed process designs that can directly support technical implementation.
• Experience facilitating process discovery, process design, and future-state workshops with business and technical stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities for process improvement, simplification, standardization, and automation.
• Experience supporting Federal Government programs, systems, or modernization initiatives.
• Experience collaborating with Business Analysts, product and functional teams, architects, developers, integration teams, and testers.
• Strong analytical, facilitation, visualization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident status required.
• Ability to meet applicable federal background investigation and security requirements.
• Experience with financial management, budgeting, acquisition, planning, accounting, or related business processes is preferred.
• Familiarity with Federal PPBE, budget formulation, budget execution, acquisition planning, or IT investment management processes is a plus.
• Experience supporting Department of Veterans Affairs programs, systems, or business processes is desirable.
• Experience designing processes for configurable enterprise, workflow, ERP/EPM, financial, or low-code platforms is preferred.
• Familiarity with platforms such as OneStream, ServiceNow, Appian, Salesforce, or comparable workflow-driven technologies is advantageous.
• Experience with human-centered design, journey mapping, or service blueprinting is a plus.
• Familiarity with process modeling tools such as Visio, Lucidchart, Signavio, ARIS, or comparable solutions is preferred.
• Experience with Agile delivery methodologies and tools such as Jira and Confluence is beneficial.
• Relevant certification in BPM, Lean Six Sigma, Service Design, Human-Centered Design, or a related discipline is a plus.

• Base salary of $112,000–$139,000 annually, depending on geographic location, experience, skills, education, internal equity, security clearance, and contract requirements.
