Essential Duties and Responsibilities

WHAT TO EXPECT

Located remotely from your home office, the Business Development Manager - Building Materials and Forest Products, Americas will be part of the Americas Commercial team reporting to the Director - Industrial Growth, Commercial, Americas.

This role is responsible for the development of profitable and sustainable sales growth across lumber, wood products, pulp and paper, panelboard, building materials manufacturing, and related OEM and end-user markets within the United States and Canada. Additionally, this role is responsible for aligning the local sales and marketing strategy with broader business objectives. The BDM will have broad responsibility for coordinating sales efforts across the entire Power Transmission products portfolio into heavy-duty industrial applications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Strategic Growth: Leverage deep expertise in the U.S. and Canadian markets to develop and execute a business development strategy focused on increasing building materials and forest products processor and equipment builder specifications and adoption of Gates products across severe-duty manufacturing and processing applications.
• Business Planning: Develop, own, and execute a multi-year business plan aligned with the Americas Strategic Plan, delivering profitable growth against defined revenue and cost objectives.
• Technical Advocacy: Serve as the primary market and technical voice for sawmills, pulp/paper mills, panel plants, and building product OEMs by translating harsh operating environments (dust, moisture, high shock loads, extreme temperatures) into internal product, engineering, and commercial strategies.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Identify, map, and actively engage key stakeholders within building materials and forest products manufacturing organizations, including plant management, operations, maintenance/reliability engineering, corporate engineering, and sourcing teams.
• Standards & Compliance: Identify relevant industry standards, heavy-duty safety certifications, and validation needs required for lumber, panel, and paper plant and equipment approval and platform adoption.
• New Opportunities: Identify, quantify, and prioritize new business opportunities related to new product introductions and emerging automation/efficiency technologies in forest products and building materials processing.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with technical sales, application engineering, product management, and account teams to build a robust pipeline of heavy-duty industrial projects and define winning strategies for plant and program awards.
• Target Account Management: Develop and maintain a prioritized list of strategic and enterprise building materials and forest products processing targets, focusing resources on high-impact growth opportunities.

Requirements and Preferred Skills

ABOUT YOU

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or Business.
• Minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience with at least 3 years experience in the industrial market.
• Background with food and beverage manufacturing equipment is preferred.
• Travel for this role is allotted at 30-50%.
• Must possess a strong business acumen and be an experienced, self-directed leader capable of planning, organizing, developing & directing key account plans/projects in a professional and logical manner.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship.

Pay & Benefits

• Full-Time
• Salary Range: $115,000 - $140,000
• SIP Eligible
• Relocation is not provided
• Medical, Dental, Vision insurance and other voluntary benefit options: benefits begin on the first day of the month immediately following your date of hire     
• Eligible for (3 or 2) weeks of paid vacation + 11 holidays (9 scheduled & 2 floating) + 8 sick days. All vacation days are accrued
