Job Description

About Company:

From Our Head of School

Welcome to Providence High School! Through an intellectually challenging course of study and a wide-ranging and exciting co-curricular program, you can graduate and confidently head to college, prepared for advanced studies, work, and life.

At Providence, you will experience a bold academic vision that is both joyful and intellectually challenging. Our leadership, faculty, and staff actively support the social-emotional wellbeing of our students as each of you take advantage of our full range of AP and honors courses and enriching electives.

At Providence, we know that tradition (our mission, vision, and values, and the rituals and practices that support them) is a core part of who we are and ensures the Providence Spirit that energizes the school is preserved, and we avoid conflating tradition with past practice (a.k.a. “the way we’ve always done things”) so that tradition can be a vital source of freedom, creativity, and innovation.

At Providence, you will join a strong and caring community rooted in the shared values given to us by the Sisters of Providence (compassion, dignity, justice, excellence, and integrity), and you will be an active part of an environment that encourages you to discover, develop, and express your whole and utterly unique identity.

At Providence, you can ground yourself and uplift others by going beyond service to impact.

At Providence, you can express your faith through virtue, worship, and an active commitment to justice, and we know that a mature faith seeks understanding so you are also encouraged to cultivate a lively curiosity.

At Providence, you will find your purpose through friendships, values, commitments, and communities you can rely upon when life inevitably gets tough, and we believe that those same things should also serve as a source of personal freedom and autonomy that gives you the confidence to reach your potential by taking risks, thinking boldly, and responding to the needs of your communities. In short, we give you both roots and wings.

Discover more about why our graduates are so confident and prepared by exploring our website, giving us a call, scheduling a visit, or attending a game or performance. We look forward to getting to know you and how you will enrich our community as a Pioneer.

Equal Opportunity
At Providence High School, equity, inclusion, and social justice are core to our mission. We are proud to be an equal opportunity workplace and embrace difference for the benefit of our students, families, faculty, and staff. Our goal is to create a diverse learning community where every employee is known, cared for, supported, and retained. As such, Providence is committed to maintaining a responsive and inclusive workplace free of discrimination, harassment, violence, and any other abusive conduct. Mindful of our mission to be expressions of God's healing love, we employ and support people of any race, ancestry or national origin, gender, gender expression, gender identity, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, age, religion, disability, veteran or military status, citizenship, or any other applicable legally protected status with all the rights and privileges generally accorded or made available to all employees of the school.

About the Role:

The Boys Volleyball Junior Varsity Head Coach is responsible for leading and developing the junior varsity volleyball program to foster athletic excellence, teamwork, and sportsmanship among student-athletes. This role involves designing and implementing comprehensive training programs that enhance players' technical skills, strategic understanding, and physical conditioning. The coach will cultivate a positive and inclusive team environment that encourages personal growth, discipline, and academic achievement. Collaboration with the varsity coaching staff, school administration, and parents is essential to ensure alignment with the overall athletic department goals and student welfare. Ultimately, the coach will prepare athletes for successful progression to varsity-level competition while promoting a lifelong appreciation for the sport.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience playing or coaching volleyball at the high school level or higher.
  • Strong knowledge of volleyball rules, techniques, and strategies.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain any required coaching certifications or clearances as mandated by the school or state.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to mentor adolescent athletes.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience coaching junior varsity or varsity volleyball teams.
  • Certification in first aid, CPR, and concussion management.
  • Background in physical education, sports science, or a related field.
  • Experience working within a school athletic program or youth sports organization.
  • Familiarity with athlete development models and sports psychology principles.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, and conduct daily volleyball practices focusing on skill development, tactics, and conditioning.
  • Develop game strategies and lead the team during matches, ensuring effective communication and motivation.
  • Monitor and support the academic progress and personal development of student-athletes.
  • Coordinate with the varsity head coach to align training programs and facilitate player advancement.
  • Manage team logistics including scheduling, equipment maintenance, and compliance with school and league regulations.
  • Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes respect, sportsmanship, and inclusivity.
  • Engage with parents, school staff, and athletic directors to communicate team progress and address concerns.

Skills:

The required skills enable the coach to effectively teach volleyball fundamentals and advanced techniques, ensuring players develop strong individual and team capabilities. Leadership and communication skills are essential for motivating athletes, managing team dynamics, and liaising with parents and school officials. Organizational skills support the planning of practices, games, and travel logistics, maintaining smooth team operations. Preferred skills such as first aid and concussion management ensure athlete safety and well-being during training and competition. Additionally, knowledge of sports psychology and athlete development helps the coach foster resilience, confidence, and a positive mindset among players.
