Board Member At-Large - REQ: 202607013B

Summary 

This Member At-Large role is a voting member seat on the leadership group of Capital Resource Connections, responsible for a wide range of duties that are aimed at helping fellow board officers and members get the most out of their collaboration. The three-year term begins on the first of the month following the directors’ meeting that follows their election. The term will close at the commencement of the directors’ meeting in the year and month following three years of the election. The Member At-Large may be elected to one additional consecutive term in the same position.  

Purpose  

The purpose of the Member At-Large 

To advise, investigate, and empower the work of Capital Resource Connections by representing the board of directors and taking the lead on official special projects and tasks that may arise, while addressing challenges and trends that directly affect the LGBTQIA+ community, in line with the focus areas of the organization’s mission. Other special projects may be assigned when such specific issues are not the primary focus of the organization. 

Responsibilities  

• Consistently bring forward thinking ideas and action plans for future goals and programming enhancements related to the overall operations; 

• Remain up to date on nonprofit industry changes, trends, laws, regulatory updates, and best practices; 

• Monitor industry trends, law/regulation changes, and best practices; 

• Conduct the corporation’s annual compliance risk assessment; 

• Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of State Rules & Regulations, Procedures, and Best Practices; 

• Initiate and direct the conduct of internal investigations in response to reports of possible compliance violations; 

• Demonstrate advanced critical thinking, especially during investigations, process reviews, and risk mitigation; 

• Provide educational material to the board of directors and Principal Director regarding new laws and regulations and issues affecting the specific areas of practice of the corporation; 

• Compliance Policy and Process standardization and the preparation and implementation of policies and procedures that meet state and local laws; 

• Advise the board of directors and the Principal Director of appropriate corrective action as a result of an internal investigation; 

• Prepare reports, charts, and other documentation as necessary to communicate compliance issues/concerns to appropriate parties; 

• Serve as a resource for questions, guidance, and compliance training of new board members; 

1. Attend, prepare for, and actively participate in all board meetings.  

1. Maintain strict confidentiality of the Board’s deliberations.  

1. Complete all assigned tasks assigned based on designation. 

1. Serve on Capital Resource Connections board committees as assigned.  

1. Serve as an advocate for Capital Resource Connections and event coordination.  

1. Respect, uphold, and support collective board decisions both inside and outside of the meeting.  

1. Facilitate various teams and task forces as assigned by the Board Chair.  

Overall board member duties include, but are not limited to: 

1. Maintaining at least monthly consistent contact with the Chair of the board to provide resources, support, and guidance;  

1. Providing information, feedback, and encouragement to teams to facilitate communication and completion of tasks;  

1. Ensuring timely and professional completion of reports and tasks;  

1. Assisting teams to reflect the mission and goals of Capital Resource Connections in their work; and  

1. Monitoring teamwork to ensure ethical compliance and adherence to guide rails.  

1. Recruit officers and members as needed.  

1. Be actively engaged in carrying out the impact and mission of Capital Resource Connections with the utmost professionalism. 

1. Facilitate various special projects as the need arises.  

1. Periodic submissions as a representative of Capital Resource Connections leadership for publications as needed.  

1. As appropriate, assist in the recruitment of future board members and the nomination of award winners.  

1. Timely communication.  

Minimum Requirements  

• Minimum Experience – Three (3) to five (5) years of board leadership with a nonprofit organization.

• Must be fully proficient with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams; 

• Ability to be trustworthy and execute actions in the best interest of the financial stability of Capital Resource Connections; 

• Position requires an in-depth knowledge of Fair Housing Regulation across the US; 

• The ability to collect, analyze, and summarize data from a variety of sources is essential to this position; 

• Professional member in good standing; 

• Demonstrated involvement in local community outreach and/or advocacy, state and/or national levels; 

• Demonstrated commitment to Capital Resource Connections 

• Compliance with the Capital Resource Connections Code of Ethical Standards; 

• Involvement in two multi-day board retreats per year;  

• Maintain board director fiduciary responsibilities as it relates to funding and the development of the organization; and 

• Enjoy advocating for the LGBTQIA+ community 

All board meetings are in-person, while all other tasks are to be completed remotely.
