Opening in November at our newly renovated facility at 4740 A Street, the Short-Term Residential program represents an exciting new chapter for Houses of Hope. We are building a team of professionals who want to create a safe, welcoming, trauma-informed environment where individuals experiencing substance use and co-occurring mental health needs can take meaningful steps toward recovery and greater independence.

Houses of Hope is seeking multiple part-time Behavioral Health Specialists to join our team. Behavioral Health Specialists provide direct care and support to individuals receiving short-term treatment. This position completes required observations and clinical documentation, assists with intake and discharge processes, facilitates psychoeducational groups, and administers medications. The position works collaboratively with members of the multidisciplinary treatment team to support individuals in achieving stability and recovery.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Foster and maintain a safe, welcoming, respectful, and trauma-informed environment for all individuals served.
• Interact with individuals in an empathetic, nonjudgmental, professional, and trauma-informed manner while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
• Provide supervision and support by reinforcing program expectations and appropriately redirecting or addressing behaviors as needed.
• Complete assigned intake and discharge responsibilities.
• Perform regular and routine observation checks of individuals receiving services and document observations accurately and timely.
• Facilitate assigned psychoeducational groups.
• Support individuals with daily activities and other program-related needs consistent with the responsibilities of the position.
• Administer medications to individuals under the supervision of a licensed nurse and document medication administration accurately and timely in the electronic health record.
• Administer drug screening and alcohol-use testing for individuals receiving services in accordance with established procedures.

• Recognize and respond appropriately to crisis situations, including utilizing approved intervention and de-escalation techniques.
• Notify appropriate staff immediately following stabilization of a crisis or significant incident.
• Document significant clinical observations, behaviors, interventions, and interactions with individuals during each assigned shift.
• Communicate relevant observations and concerns to appropriate members of the multidisciplinary team.
• Collaborate professionally with multidisciplinary team members, including medical staff, social workers, peer support staff, counselors, program staff, and other professionals involved in services.
• Assist with transportation of individuals to appointments, recreational activities, and other approved destinations using a company-provided vehicle.
• Assist in maintaining a safe, clean, and therapeutic residential environment.

 Qualifications

• Minimum age 21.
• Valid Nebraska driver’s license and proof of insurance; clean DMV record.
• CPR/First Aid and Med Aide Certified (will provide training).
• Bachelor’s Degree or two years of education in related field with two years of experience in related field.
• Must be available to work during non-traditional hours.
