Position Summary:

Ballot Security Judges retrieve and transport ballots from 24-hour ballot drop boxes to the Elections Facility. Working in bipartisan teams, they maintain a secure chain of custody throughout the process. This position requires travel to multiple drop box locations, a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record, the ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with a partner, and the ability to kneel or bend to retrieve ballots from drop boxes.

Job Description:

Training will be provided on your first day.

• Pick up mail ballots from 24-hour drop boxes and transport them to the Elections Office for processing.
• Verify seals, open ballot transport bags, and sort ballots into mail trays.
• Operate a county vehicle safely; a valid driver’s license is required.
• Perform tasks that require good hand-eye coordination and basic math and organizational skills.
• Engage in repetitive hand, wrist, and arm motions while handling ballots.
• Lift up to 40 lbs., sometimes with assistance, and kneel or bend to retrieve ballots from drop boxes.
• Get in and out of vehicles routinely throughout the day.
• Stand for up to an hour while sorting ballots.
• Drive for 3+ hours per day as part of routine ballot collection.

Essential Physical Requirements:
Continuous upward and downward flexion of the neck. Ability to sit, stand, or walk for 8–12 hours per day. Repetitive use of the hands. Frequent walking, standing, bending, and twisting of the neck and waist. Ability to perform simple grasping and reach above and below shoulder level. Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 lbs. with assistance.

Information about Shift Schedules:

For this election, there will be 10 teams divided into two shifts. The morning shift will consist of 5 teams, and a different set of 5 teams will work the afternoon shift. The split-shift schedule will remain in place through Friday, October 30.

Saturday, October 31, will be a required workday. On this day, all team members will complete one run at 9:00 AM as usual and will then report back to begin their new routes.

Beginning after October 31, all team members will transition to completing two runs per day through Election Day.
