ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY

onX is seeking a Backend Engineer with a passion for building reliable, well-tested backend services that solve user problems. Your focus will be on the shared platform infrastructure behind content experimentation, event tracking, and app-start fidelity. You will be a part of our Growth Infrastructure team, a horizontal platform team that supports Growth engineering across all of onX's verticals (Hunt, Offroad, Backcountry, Fish). This is a great opportunity to be a part of a dynamic, growing company focused on making an impact on the business, and to build infrastructure that other Growth teams rely on directly. This role will serve as a core backend contributor at onX and will report to the Growth Infrastructure Engineering Manager.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
^{Essential Job Duties & Functions}

• Build and maintain scalable services supporting Growth Infrastructure initiatives, including content experimentation and event tracking
• Write unit, integration, and acceptance tests
• Participate in architectural discussions and contribute design proposals for our services
• Collaborate effectively with other engineers, PMs, and cross-functional stakeholders (mobile, BI, marketing)
• Leverage and extend existing onX services rather than reinventing them
• Proactively identify and use AI workflows that increase velocity while not degrading quality.
• Participate in an on-call rotation to support backend services after work hours

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of professional software development experience, primarily in API development, is required
• A shared passion for and ability to demonstrate onX's Company Values
• Permanent US work authorization is a condition of employment with onX
• Ability to travel quarterly for multiple days to a corporate office or other onX strategic location, such as a Basecamp

ADDED BONUSES

Though not required, we would be thrilled to consider candidates with any of the following:

• Experience with Go or similar backend languages
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code technologies such as Terraform
• Familiarity with a major cloud platform (Google Cloud Platform preferred)
• Exposure to A/B testing or experimentation platforms (e.g., Eppo)

We have two HQ locations in Bozeman and Missoula, MT and established virtual workforce Basecamps in Austin, TX; Denver, CO; Kalispell, MT; Minneapolis, MN; Portland, OR; Salt Lake City, UT; and Seattle, WA.

HOW YOU’LL BE COMPENSATED

onX is committed to compensating all employees fairly and equitably for their contributions. For this position, applicants can expect to make between $130,000 to $153,000 upon hire. The pay range will vary based on experience, skills, certifications, and education among other factors as required in the job description. In addition, full-time onX employees are eligible for a grant of common share options with a vesting schedule and a potential annual bonus of 10% based on company performance.
