Job Description
AVID TUTOR
Nature and Scope of Job: Tutoring opportunities exist at middle and high schools. Applicants must be willing to work within a variety of content areas with small groups of students under the supervision of a certified teacher in a classroom during the regular school day. Tutors/Interns serve as guides and facilitators of students' learning through questioning, writing, thinking, and discussing. Tutors/Interns may work a minimum of one hour per week, or multiple hours, depending on the tutors' availability.
Education, Licenses, Certification, or Formal Training:
Active enrollment in higher ed - e.g. college or university
Prior to employment, all candidates must pass a background check
Complete AVID Tutor training with AVID Site Coordinator
Qualifications: Applicants should have organizational and record keeping skills, excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills, and the ability to manage time and meet obligations with minimal supervision. Applicants must maintain confidentiality and perform all functions of the position. The best qualification is caring about making a difference in the lives of students and the community.

Maintain consistent schedule throughout the semester with the school(s)
Provide a positive and encouraging environment for students and school staff
Maintain an accurate and honest timesheet
Follow requirements for documenting tutor information for students

Students are quickly able to resume collegiate studies at a university, completing their bachelor’s degree in two more years.
