Associate Vice President, Global Benefits

Position Summary

Reporting to the Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer and serving as a member of the HR Leadership Team, the Associate Vice President is responsible for leading and directing all strategic activities related to NYU’s benefits programs, benefits service delivery, and leave management that fosters the acquisition, retention, and retirement of top faculty and staff at the University. The Associate Vice President supports and champions NYU’s benefits strategy and philosophy and recommends, designs, develops, and/or implements benefit programs to deliver world-class programs while managing costs and/or maintaining or improving market competitiveness. As the human resources leader accountable for global benefits, the Associate Vice President will work autonomously in support of the University and UHR missions while concurrently supporting management goals and the Benefits team, requiring the ability to be comfortable with strategy as well as to be able to work tactically to ensure successful execution. This leader is accountable for ensuring and providing outstanding customer service in a highly decentralized and fast paced environment in support of these goals and objectives. To that end, excellent analytical skills and budget management, including the ability to work effectively with vendors and manage large- and small-scale projects, are a must.

This role will work with senior management and the global benefits team to design, implement and optimize health and welfare plans, retirement programs (inclusive of retiree medical), leave management plans, and wellness initiatives including compliance with all legal requirements. The incumbent also maintains accountability and ownership of Benefits services, policies and programs for the University; will administer and maintain benefits programs and ensure compliance for North American benefits and international benefits as needed; serves as a key liaison with critical stakeholders, including the Faculty Benefits Committee and the Administrative Management Council in all benefits program policy issues; and is expected to maintain close ties with external groups including those in general industry and Ivy Plus benefits colleagues.. The incumbent also works closely with the Senior Director, Finance and Employee Training & Support Services and their PeopleLink team in a shared services environment and provides expertise in resolving benefit plan policy decisions for clients.

Qualifications

Required Education:Bachelor's DegreePreferred Education:Master's Degree in business, HR Management or related area.Required Experience:15+ years of experience as a Benefits professional in a large, global organization, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must include experience designing and managing major benefit programs, wellness and training initiatives, benefit compliance and regulations, COBRA and Leave regulations, and retirement plans and fiduciary responsibility.

7+ years of experience in a managerial role.Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Advanced knowledge and experience of US Benefits and retirement laws (federal, state, and local laws and regulations including, but not limited to COBRA, PPACA, HIPAA, Short Term Disability, FMLA, ERISA, IRC Section 125, ADA in multiple states, Workers’ Compensation, Retirement Administration and state specific government regulations for insurance filing and reporting. The ideal candidate must be able to demonstrate sound judgment, strategic thinking, excellent organizational and communication skills, ability to prioritize and take initiative, work well under pressure, and maintain confidential information. Demonstrated ability to successfully and nimbly manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet required deadlines, keeping all stakeholders aligned and apprised of required activities in advance, no surprises. Strong communicator, able to articulate complex topics both verbally and in writing to various audiences, both in terms of training and persuasion. Superior results-oriented vendor management skills. Superior analytical and problem resolution skills. Highly self-motivated. Experience developing and delivering benefits programs in and for employee populations based in the Europe, the Middle East, China, and other global locations.

Additional Information

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $335,000.00 to USD $385,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
