Assistant Unit Manager, Genesis (P/T)

Salary: $28.85 per hour 

Catholic Charities of Baltimore, St. Vincent Villa is seeking an Assistant Unit Manager for Genesis helps support daily operations and staff leadership in the residential program. This position helps create a safe, caring, and consistent setting for children while supporting staff, communication, and program needs. The role helps promote stability, accountability, and positive outcomes aligned with the agency’s mission.

Work Schedule: This is a part-time position working 20 hours per week. The typical schedule includes one 6-hour weekend shift, generally Sunday afternoon/evening, and two 7-hour weekday shifts. Schedule flexibility may be required based on program needs. 

St. Vincent’s Villa provides comprehensive residential treatment for children, ages 5-13, whose behavioral and emotional needs have not responded to community-based interventions and services.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provides active, visible supervisory leadership within the Genesis unit to maintain a safe, structured, trauma-informed, and therapeutically responsive environment for children and staff.
• Supports the Unit Manager in directing day-to-day unit operations, ensuring consistent implementation of program expectations, service standards, routines, and procedures.
• Supervises direct care staff by orienting, training, coaching, assigning work, monitoring performance, providing feedback, approving payroll, and addressing performance concerns in a timely and professional manner.
• Models and reinforces the Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), CARE, and trauma-informed care frameworks to promote consistent staff practice, child safety, emotional regulation, and positive treatment outcomes.
• Monitors the therapeutic milieu and physical environment to ensure cleanliness, safety, organization, supervision, and readiness for daily programming, licensing review, and the needs of children in care.
• Coordinates with the Unit Manager to manage staffing schedules, coverage needs, overtime, attendance concerns, and daily assignments to support child safety, operational continuity, employee accountability, and budget expectations.
• Ensures DHS milieu licensing requirements, agency policies, documentation expectations, incident reporting procedures, and program standards are consistently followed and maintained.
• Participates in unit staff meetings, treatment team meetings, admissions, transitions, and other program activities to support coordinated communication, continuity of care, and timely follow-through on child and unit needs.
• Responds to unit needs, incidents, and emergencies with sound judgment and in accordance with agency procedures, including providing on-site leadership coverage in the absence of the Unit Manager when required.
• Maintains availability by cell phone when away from the program and provides leadership coverage during varied days and times, including evenings and weekends, to ensure appropriate supervisory presence during key operational periods.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree in human services, nursing, healthcare, mental health, education, child care, or a related field required; directly related experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a one-to-one year basis.
• 4 years’ experience in a residential treatment environment, 2 of which must be at a senior/supervisory/ or management level

Certification

• TCI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention) training must be completed within 2 months of hire and maintained throughout employment.
• CARE training must be completed within 6 months of hire and maintained throughout employment.
• RCYCP certification must be current at hire or obtained within 6 months of hire and maintained throughout employment.
• CPR/First Aid certification must be obtained within 45 days of hire and maintained throughout employment.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication, relational, supervisory, and staff engagement skills to foster clear exchanges, positive relationships, motivation, teamwork, and effective team dynamics.
• Applies discretion, professionalism, confidentiality, integrity, critical thinking, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills to navigate challenges, make informed decisions, address issues, and maintain a positive work environment.
• Exhibits strong planning, organizational, prioritization, and delegation skills to execute tasks efficiently, assign work appropriately, and support optimal workflow and productivity.
• Requires proficiency in using computer systems and software to perform job function, including but not limited to, basic Windows PC, web browsing (i.e., Chrome, Internet Explorer, etc.), and Microsoft Outlook. Knowledge of other Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, Excel PowerPoint, Teams, and OneDrive is preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• No remote or hybrid work availability based on core and essential functions of the position.
• Adjusting or moving objects up to 40 pounds in all directions, which may include lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or repositioning items as necessary to perform job duties..
• Physically able to perform TCI-approved moves and holds and participates with physical restraints when needed.
• Engaging in communication with others to exchange information, which may involve speaking, listening, writing, or using electronic communication methods to ensure clear and effective understanding. This includes both verbal and non-verbal interactions with colleagues, clients, or external parties.
• Hearing and vision abilities, with or without correction, must be sufficient to drive safely, observe the environment effectively, and communicate with others.
• Driving (Agency and/or personal vehicle) is required for this position. Driver must be at least 21 years of age, with a minimum of 2 years of driving experience, and a valid driver’s license issued by the state of residence.  There can be no state issued restrictions on the licenses that would impede drivers’ ability to operate the vehicle as required by the Agency, and there must not be more than three (3) points on their driving record.
