Assistant Public Works Director-Public Service

Job Details: Job Location: 790 N Central Ave, Wood Dale, IL 60191 - Wood Dale, IL, Salary Range: $98550.00 - $110550.00Salary, The City of Wood Dale is seeking a highly qualified and motivated professional to join our Public Works team as Assistant Director of Public Works – Public Services.

Under the general direction of the Public Works Director, the Assistant Director assists in leading and supervising the City's Public Services operations, including streets, water, facilities maintenance, and fleet maintenance. This position plays an important role in ensuring the efficient delivery of essential municipal services and supporting the department's long-term operational goals.

Work for this position includes, but is not limited to:

Assist the Public Works Director with the daily operations and supervision of Public Services activities.
Assist with oversight of street, water, facilities, and fleet maintenance operations.
Provide leadership, direction, and support to departmental staff.
Assist with the development and implementation of departmental rules, policies, procedures, goals, and operational standards.
Participate in strategic planning, budgeting, and departmental planning activities.
Maintain and oversee appropriate departmental records and documentation.
Assist with accreditation activities and efforts to maintain departmental standards.
Evaluate operational needs and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, service delivery, and processes.
Assist with coordinating projects and departmental initiatives.
Serve as interim Public Works Director in the Director's absence.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction, Public Administration, Management, or a related field with a minimum of three to five years of supervisory experience with increasing duties and responsibilities.

Hiring Range: $98,550–$110,550. Excellent benefits include Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund; paid vacation and sick leave accrual; medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.  The position is open until filled, with initial review of applications beginning September 16, 2026.
