Assistant, Public Relations and Social Media

CFP Board had an exciting part-time opportunity (10-15 hours per week) to assist the public relations and social media team in promoting awareness and building recognition of CFP Board and CFP® certification among financial planners, the public, the media, and key stakeholders. 

The ideal candidate will have experience using their creativity and an analytical mindset to assist the organization deliver results towards fulfilling our mission. This is a part-time position with a maximum duration of 10 weeks. Weekly work schedule is flexible and determined collaboratively based on intern’s availability and PR team needs and project deadlines.

Essential Functions

• Check the news, industry trends, and competitor pages daily to share updates with the team. 
• Track online financial planning topics and compile lists of trending conversations and relevant reporters/media outlets.
• Help compiling the weekly media clippings, summarizing and formatting for distribution in HubSpot.
• Help write social media copy, draft and edit press releases, talking points, video scripts and PR materials. 
• Assist with video editing and multimedia production.
• Support cross-functional projects and organizational events.
• Assist with drafting media pitches for major organizational projects, reports, and research publications.
• Update media contact database and organize files.
• Prepare presentations/reports for staff, as needed.
• Draft talking points, compile research and log post-interview feedback.
• Assist with project tasks and deliverables from external agencies.
• Perform other department duties as assigned.

Background/Skills/Abilities Preferred

• Current college student majoring in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing or Journalism 
• At least one prior internship or campus leadership role involving content creation, writing or club communications is highly preferred.
• Experience with major social media platforms (X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, Reddit)
• Experience using publishing, curation, monitoring, and reporting tools such as Sprout Social, , or others
• Experience using apps such as Adobe Creative Suite or Canva 
• Video editing experience a plus
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite(Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point)
• Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with strong attention to detail and ability to convey complex information accurately and concisely in an understandable manner
• Exceptional interpersonal skills, including ability to work collaboratively and establish strong working relationships with colleagues within the organization as well as with outside partners and vendors
• Self-motivated, problem-solver with ability to develop alternative solutions
• Capability to manage multiple projects and calendars

This position is based in the Washington D.C. office and works a hybrid schedule which could be changed at any time.

The hourly rate for this position is $20/hour, which reflects the firm’s good faith and reasonable estimate of possible compensation at the time of posting.
