Stoke the Next Generation of Shredders: UMF Seeks Assistant Freeski Coach!

Ready to trade the desk for the powder and turn your passion for the slopes into a leadership role? The University of Maine at Farmington is looking for a driven, high-energy Assistant Freeski Coach  to assist the director of snowsports with our intercollegiate varsity Freeski/snowboard team.

If you live for winter, know the difference between a clean cork and a sloppy landing, and want to assist in building  a powerhouse collegiate roster, this is your arena. You’ll work directly with talented student-athletes, helping them sharpen their technical skills, crush competition days, and elevate UMF’s presence on the circuit.

Typical Season:  October 15 - April 15 

This position is part-time/temp appointment and pays a $4,000 stipend (prorated based on hire date

What You’ll Do

• Coach & Develop: Run afternoon and evening practice sessions, offering real-time technical feedback and tactical insight to help freeskiers level up safely.
• Own the Game Plan: Travel with the squad for weekend competitions, managing event-day logistics, athlete preparation, and mental edge.
• Drive the Energy (and the Van): Transport the team safely to venues while keeping squad morale high and culture tight.
• Build the Future: Tap into your network and leverage computer-savvy recruiting to find the next generation of UMF freeski talent.

What We’re Looking For and minimum requirements

• Basics:   High School diploma or equivalent
• Slope Proven: Solid experience with the fundamental skills and competition principles of freeskiing/snowboard
• Reliable Leadership: Impeccable integrity, adaptability, crisp communication skills, and a team-first mindset
• Road Ready: A valid driver’s license (in good standing, based on UMS standards) 
• Flexible Schedule: Full availability for afternoon/evening trainings and weekend competition trips.

Bonus Points (preferred) If You Bring

• Bachelor's degree
• Collegiate competitive or freeski coaching experience.
• USSA or PSIA certifications.
• A track record in sports recruiting and athlete development.
