Overview
A sweet, sensitive, curious, and gifted eight-year-old boy based in Howard Beach, NY, is in need of a tutor. This is a bilingual (English-Spanish) household that deeply values education and understands how strong preparation can open doors and change the course of their son's life. This is a special family looking for a special tutor to match their son's energy and potential.
- Location: Howard Beach, NY (in person)
- Frequency: 1-2 times per week
- Start date: ASAP
Responsibilities
- Support the development of reading skills, vocabulary, and written expression
- Continue to challenge and advance his strengths in math and science
- Prepare him over time for the SHSAT, with the goal of admission to Bronx High School of Science or Stuyvesant High School
- Incorporate hands-on projects, especially robotics, to make learning engaging
- Build his confidence, particularly in the areas where he feels less sure of himself (reading and writing)
Qualifications
- A graduate of a top NYC public specialized high school (e.g., Bronx Science or Stuyvesant) is ideal
- An education degree is a strong plus
- Experience working with bright, curious kids who need both academic rigor and encouragement
Requirements
- Ability to engage a child in a fun, energetic way while still delivering real academic progress
- Comfort building and guiding hands-on projects (robotics interest is a big bonus)
- Spanish language skills are a plus (Spanish-English speaking household)
Salary and Benefits
Hourly rate: starting at $35+
