Ambulatory MA/ACA

Provide daily front end support for busy cardiology office. Must be capable of independent decision making, coordinating patient procedures, and heavy telephone triage. Must be pleasant, dependable, and highly motivated. Ability to check patients in and out and deliver a positive experience.

Responsibilities

• 1. Check in patients and update insurance information. If insurance has changed, obtain a copy of the new card and update in computer.
• 2. Have patient complete necessary forms prior to appointment: HIPAA, new patient forms.
• 3. Make sure valid referral is on file prior to the patient testing being performed.
• 4. 'Arrive' patient in Imagecast system. Print billing label, affix to encounter form, and have chart ready for medical assistant.
• 5. Answer, screen and triage phone calls. Take appropriate message and follow through on all patient requests.
• 6. Order supplies for front office - all office supplies including encounter forms.
• 7. Open mail and distribute to appropriate persons.
• 8. Send out reminders and directions to patients.
• 9. File necessary information and correspondence into patient charts.
• 10. Collect co-pay for patient visit, and fill out receipt.
• 11. Schedule patient's next appointment.
• 12. Schedule all patient in-house testing i.e. echocardiograms, nuclear studies, holter monitors requested by physician.
• 13. Schedule all outside patient referrals for necessary testing as ordered by physician
• 14. Make sure encounter form has appropriate box checked for billing purposes.
• 15. Collect/reconcile encounter forms and forward to New Haven for charge entry.
• 16. Contact other doctor offices for case related information, as requested by physician.
• 17. Adheres to general standards of performance and conduct that conforms with Hospital policy so that the best possible patient care may be provided to the patient

Qualifications

EDUCATION

High School diploma or equivalent required. Must meet one of the following requirements: graduation from an accredited medical assistant (MA) certificate program or Phlebotomy program, certification as a certified nursing assistant (CNA), emergency medical technician (EMT), or paramedic. Employees who join YNHHS through a merger or acquisition may satisfy educational requirements by demonstrating the appropriate combination of education, relevant experience, and current competencies.

EXPERIENCE

Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a medical assistant (MA), certified nursing assistant (CNA), emergency medical technician (EMT), ambulatory care associate (ACA), patient care associate/technician (PCA/PCT), paramedic, or phlebotomist required. New graduates from an accredited medical assistant certificate program, with less than one (1) year of experience, will be considered.

LICENSURE

Certification/registration (CCMA/CMA/AAMA/RMA) preferred. Certification/registration may be accepted in lieu of graduation from an accredited MA school. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Medical insurance/office training., Previous work in physician's office with IDX training a plus., Training with medical coding and billing preferred. Ability to communicate well with patients and give instructions, Good computer skills and typing, Must be able to work independently and be extremely dependable, Ability to be cross-trained for all front-end positions, Knowledge of medical terminology
