Job Details

The CASAC Adolescent Specialist provides individual and group counseling services to students affected by alcohol and substance use within the school community. This role involves delivering prevention, intervention, and treatment services to adolescents in need of support related to substance abuse issues. The specialist collaborates with school staff, parents, and external support resources to create a comprehensive approach to student well-being.

Responsibilities:

Counseling Services:

Provide individual and group counseling sessions to students struggling with substance use or abuse.

Conduct assessments to evaluate the severity of substance use and develop personalized treatment plans.

Offer crisis intervention services to students experiencing substance-related issues.

Support students in developing coping strategies, life skills, and positive decision-making.

Prevention and Education:

Develop and deliver substance abuse prevention programs and workshops to students, staff, and parents.

Collaborate with school leadership to implement school-wide prevention efforts (e.g., assemblies, informational campaigns).

Educate students about the risks of substance use and promote healthy alternatives.

Collaboration and Case Management:

Work closely with school counselors and social workers, administrators, teachers, and parents to coordinate care for students.

Make referrals to external treatment providers and community resources when necessary.

Follow up with students and families to ensure they are receiving the appropriate support services.

Documentation and Reporting:

Maintain confidential records of counseling sessions, progress reports, and treatment plans in compliance with school policy and relevant laws.

Prepare and submit reports as required by school administration and external agencies.

Document all student interactions and services in a timely manner.

Crisis Response:

Provide immediate assistance to students in crisis situations, including those experiencing acute substance use episodes.

Assist in the development and implementation of school crisis intervention plans related to substance abuse.

Requirements:

Education:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field.

Certifications:

CASAC (Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor) credential required.

Additional certifications or training in adolescent counseling, mental health, or school counseling is a plus.

Experience:

Experience working with adolescents in a counseling, educational, or healthcare setting.

Experience with substance use prevention, intervention, and treatment.

Skills:

Knowledge of substance use disorders, prevention strategies, and treatment modalities.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with students, staff, and families.

Ability to create and deliver educational programs to diverse groups.

Understanding of confidentiality and ethical standards in counseling.

Additional Requirements:

Ability to work in a school environment, including interacting with adolescents, parents, and staff.

A passion for helping students develop healthy lifestyles and make positive choices.

Work Environment:

This position typically requires working during school hours, with occasional evenings for parent meetings or school events.

Salary Range

USD $29.24 - USD $40.94 /Hr.

This range serves as a good faith estimate and actual pay will encompass a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience. The salary range or rate listed does not include any bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation that may be applicable to this job and it does not include the value of benefits.
