After School Leadership Enrichment Instructor [SY26-27]

The Opportunity: 

The Leadership Enrichment Instructor is responsible for planning and facilitating weekly sessions that develop students’ leadership skills, confidence, and civic engagement through targeted programming such as Speech & Debate, Student Ambassadors, and Affinity Groups. This role fosters a student-centered, culturally responsive environment and contributes to the broader mission of promoting voice, excellence, and identity development in extended day programming.

Speech & Debate

• Teach fundamentals of public speaking, argument structure, and persuasive writing.

• Prepare students for mock debates, formal speeches, and potential tournaments.

• Cultivate critical thinking and respectful discourse among participants.

Student Ambassadors

• Guide students in developing public speaking, peer leadership, and campus ambassadorship skills.

• Support students in planning and leading school tours, events, and community engagement efforts.

• Foster student ownership of school culture and mentorship of younger peers.

SABLE (Students Achieving Black and Latinx Excellence)

• Facilitate sessions focused on identity, academic excellence, and leadership among Black and Latinx students

• Integrate culturally responsive resources and guest speakers where possible and create a safe space for students to explore topics of race, culture, and empowerment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

• Supervise and ensure the safety, well-being, and engagement of up to 15 students during after-school programming.

• Plan and facilitate engaging lessons and enrichment activities, adapting instruction to meet diverse learning needs and interests.

• Establish learning objectives, monitor student progress, and support skill development through project-based activities.

• Foster a positive, inclusive environment that encourages participation, collaboration, and character development.

• Prepare classrooms and materials, maintain attendance records, and assist with daily program setup and cleanup.

• Implement safety protocols, including emergency procedures and evacuation drills.

• Evaluate program effectiveness and adjust activities to maximize student engagement and outcomes.

• Perform additional duties as assigned by the After-School Program Director.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; certifications or credentials in music/band disciplines are preferred.

• Availability to work late afternoons and/or evenings (typically 4:00–6:00 p.m., with program hours between 3:00–6:30 p.m.).

• Experience in one or more music/band disciplines and prior experience working with youth in a classroom, enrichment, or after-school setting preferred.

• Strong communication, classroom management, and group facilitation skills, with the ability to adapt instruction for diverse learners and follow program schedules.

• Passion for music education and youth development; candidates qualified to lead instruction in multiple activities are preferred. Must successfully complete required background checks and clearances.

Salary: 

• $25 - $35 per hour
