Job Summary:

The Department of Biology seeks affiliates who can teach both lectures and laboratory classes in a variety of biology areas.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential:

• Teach from a wide variety of courses in the Department of Biology depending on needs of the Department and qualifications of applicant.

• Normal duties will be those associated with preparation and teaching lectures and/or laboratories, keeping complete and accurate grade records, adequately evaluating student performance, and appropriately using class time.

• Affiliate faculty are part-time employees hired to teach on a per credit hour basis for specific classes, as needed, on a semester-by- semester basis. Affiliate Faculty are not eligible for benefit coverage under the University’s benefit program.

• All such teaching assignments are dependent on budget and enrollment. An Affiliate faculty member’s duties include: meeting assigned classes consistent with University, College, and Department policies; providing instruction in assigned classes consistent with the content and learning objectives of the regular course syllabus and, if appropriate, with Department course coordination policies; and being available, either face-to-face or electronically, to students in assigned classes to provide additional academic support as needed and appropriate for the teaching assignment.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Biology or related field

Preferred Qualifications:

• Doctorate in Biology or related field.

• Relevant teaching experience.

Work Schedule:  Will be dependent on the course schedule.

This position is benefits-eligible for workers’ compensation and will receive 1 hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 48 hours per year.

$3,225 per course contract
