What You'll Do

The Advocacy Intern will support the advocacy and partnerships team in research, engagement, and project coordination activities that advance policy initiatives, strengthen community and legislative relationships, and support Upbring’s advocacy and partnership efforts.  

Responsibilities

• Conduct legislative research and track policy developments relevant to child wellbeing 
• Review studies, interim reports, and legislative committee charges related to child welfare 
• Monitor and analyze legislation (filed previously, passed, or potential options for Upbring to consider in the future), regulatory matters, and executive orders  
• Assist with grassroots advocacy efforts through Voter Voice, including supporter engagement, campaign support, and advocacy communications growing its base 
• Research partnership, coalition, and stakeholder engagement opportunities aligned with Upbring’s mission 
• Contribute to advocacy and partnership-related communications, social media content, educational materials, and stakeholder outreach efforts related to policy priorities and community engagement opportunities 
• Assist with coordination of advocacy and partnerships projects and administrative activities 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Communications, Journalism, Social Work, or a related field
• Strong research and analytical skills with attention to detail
• Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to tailor messages for different audiences
• Strong collaboration and teamwork abilities
• Eagerness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced advocacy environment

Physical Demands & Work Conditions

• This position requires sitting and looking and using a computer for long periods of time 
• Lift, push, pull, move up to 25 lbs.
