REPORTS TO: SPA & FITNESS DIRECTOR

POSITION SUMMARY

The Adult Dance Instructor is responsible for creating and delivering engaging, high-energy dance classes for Hideaway Golf Club's adult Members while providing an exceptional luxury club experience. This position develops and teaches choreography incorporating Jazz, Funk, and Hip Hop styles with an emphasis on proper technique, musicality, movement quality, confidence, and enjoyment.

The Adult Dance Instructor creates a welcoming and encouraging environment where Members of varying dance experience and fitness levels can participate comfortably and successfully. This position serves as an ambassador for Hideaway Golf Club by building positive Member relationships, maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and safety, and bringing energy, enthusiasm, and expertise to Spa & Fitness programming.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Dance Instruction & Programming

• Lead engaging, energetic, and professionally structured dance classes designed specifically for adults.
• Develop and teach choreography incorporating Jazz, Funk, Hip Hop, and related dance styles appropriate to Club programming.
• Demonstrate proper dance technique, movement patterns, rhythm, coordination, and musicality.
• Provide clear verbal and visual instruction to help Members safely learn and execute choreography.
• Modify movements, choreography, intensity, and complexity to accommodate varying dance experience, fitness levels, and physical abilities.
• Structure classes to include appropriate warm-up, instruction, choreography, conditioning, and cool-down components as applicable.
• Select music and choreography that are energetic, current, engaging, and appropriate for a private club environment.
• Prepare class content and choreography in advance to ensure organized, professional, and effective instruction.
• Maintain awareness of Members during class and provide appropriate coaching, encouragement, and technique corrections.
• Promote safe movement practices and help reduce the risk of injury through proper instruction and class progression.

• Encourage continued participation in dance classes and other Spa & Fitness programs through positive Member experiences.

Dance Studio & Program Operations

• Arrive sufficiently in advance of scheduled classes to prepare the studio, music, equipment, and instructional materials.
• Ensure the dance and fitness areas used for instruction are safe, clean, organized, and ready for Member use.
• Inspect the instructional space and any equipment used prior to class and promptly report maintenance or safety concerns.
• Assist with setup, movement, and organization of mats, fitness accessories, audio equipment, or other class materials as needed.
• Coordinate with the Spa & Fitness team regarding class schedules, Member participation, programming needs, and special events.
• Participate in Club wellness events, demonstrations, special programming, and other Spa & Fitness activities as requested.
• Support departmental goals by encouraging Member participation and helping create a vibrant, engaging Spa & Fitness community.

Professional Standards

• Maintain a professional appearance consistent with Hideaway Golf Club standards.
• Maintain any required professional certifications and continuing education applicable to the position.
• Remain current on dance trends, instructional techniques, choreography, music, and industry best practices.
• Follow all safety procedures, emergency response protocols, and Club policies.
• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and exercise discretion in all Member interactions.
• Foster teamwork through positive communication and collaboration with Spa & Fitness and other Club departments.
• Maintain punctuality, reliability, preparedness, and professionalism for all scheduled classes and events.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

MEMBER EXPERIENCE & TRAINING EXPECTATIONS

• Prepare for each scheduled class by developing or reviewing choreography, music, class structure, and appropriate modifications.
• Begin and end each class on time while maximizing the Member experience.
• Provide clear demonstrations and verbal cues throughout each class.
• Observe Member movement and provide appropriate technique corrections and modifications in a positive and encouraging manner.
• Adapt instruction based on the experience, physical capabilities, and comfort levels of participating Members.
• Maintain an atmosphere that balances effective dance instruction with fun, energy, and Member engagement.
• Communicate professionally regarding class schedules, programming changes, cancellations, and special events.
• Encourage Members through positive coaching and recognition while helping them build confidence and enjoyment in dance.
• Support Hideaway Golf Club's commitment to personalized wellness, exceptional service, and luxury hospitality.

Requirements

• Prior professional dance instruction experience required, preferably teaching adult participants.
• Strong technical background in Jazz, Funk, and Hip Hop.
• Demonstrated experience developing and teaching choreography.
• Ability to safely demonstrate dance movements and provide clear, effective instruction.
• Ability to modify choreography, movement, and intensity for varying dance experience and fitness levels.
• Energetic, engaging, and comfortable leading groups of adult participants.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and motivational skills.
• Ability to create an inclusive and encouraging class environment.
• Professional appearance, discretion, and sound judgment.
• Reliable, organized, punctual, and prepared for scheduled classes.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

• Formal dance training is preferred.
• Dance instruction certification or related fitness/group exercise certification is desirable.
• Professional dance performance experience is preferred.
• Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification preferred.
• Previous experience in a private club, luxury fitness club, resort, wellness center, or comparable hospitality environment is preferred.
• Hospitality, customer service, or guest relations experience is beneficial.
• Commitment to delivering exceptional Member service and upholding luxury hospitality standards.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

• Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
• Criminal and civil background clearance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Standing and walking for extended periods while conducting personal training sessions and monitoring Member exercise. 
• Standing and moving for extended periods while leading dance classes.
• Demonstrating Jazz, Funk, Hip Hop, and other dance movements and choreography.
• Performing repetitive movements involving the arms, legs, torso, and entire body.
• Bending, reaching, twisting, turning, squatting, balancing, and changing direction during dance instruction.
• Demonstrating movements at varying speeds and levels of intensity.
• Maintaining balance, coordination, rhythm, and spatial awareness while instructing.
• Walking throughout the studio to observe Members and provide instruction or technique corrections.
• Setting up, moving, and storing lightweight class equipment and accessories as needed.
• Operating audio, music, and other equipment used during classes.
• Communicating continuously with Members while demonstrating movement and monitoring the class environment.
• Visually monitoring Member movement, positioning, technique, and the surrounding instructional area for safety.
• Working indoors and, on occasion, outdoors during Club programs or special events.

Work Environment

This position works primarily within the Spa & Fitness Center, including group exercise and dance studios, fitness areas, outdoor wellness spaces, administrative workspaces, and other Club facilities as programming requires. The Adult Dance Instructor frequently interacts with Members, Guests, Spa & Fitness staff, and Club leadership while providing group dance instruction and participating in special programming.

The role requires maintaining a safe, energetic, professional, and welcoming environment while adapting to varying class schedules, Member abilities, and programming needs.
