Consultants welcome visitors and guide adopters through the matching process while providing daily care and enrichment for animals. They are responsible for maintaining accurate records and counseling adopters on pet ownership and animal behavior.
Job Description
At Anderson Humane, every adoption begins with a conversation, a connection, and the hope of a new beginning. Our Adoption & Resource Consultants are the first friendly faces people meet when they walk through our doors, and the ones who help animals feel safe, seen, and ready for their next chapter. You’ll confidently guide adopters through the adoption process, create meaningful matches, and support the animals in our care.
What You’ll Do
- Welcome and assist visitors, responding to all requests with warmth and professionalism.
- Coordinate family and animal matches through thoughtful conversations and first introductions.
- Counsel adopters on pet ownership, animal behavior, Fear Free handling, and successful transitions into the home.
- Provide animals with a clean living space, physical activity, and mental enrichment using Fear Free methods daily.
- Maintain accurate animal, financial, and adopter records.
What you bring
- At least 1 – 2 years of professional customer service experience.
- Genuine enjoyment working in a highly visible, public-facing role.
- Working knowledge of domestic animal behavior, illnesses, and body language.
- Compassionate and clear interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to multitask, adapt quickly, and stay organized in a fast-paced environment.
- Reliable transportation.

For more than 50 years, Anderson Humane has been the leading animal welfare organization in our community, saving the lives of over 80,000 homeless dogs and cats through adoption. In 2020, Anderson merged with Fox Valley Wildlife Center, expanding our animal care programming to include injured and orphaned wild animals. Our expanded mission includes all animals.

Current programs like Adoption & Fostering, Military Veterans’ Program, Horse Riding Therapy, and Healing Paws Pet Therapy Program create positive, impactful connections between people and animals, improving the lives of both. Anderson Humane is a resource for pet owners, providing information and services that allow them to provide better care for their pets. Services such as our Low-Cost Vaccination, Dental, and Spay/Neuter Clinics provide affordable veterinary care options, preventing owners from having to give up their pets simply because they can’t afford care.
On the horizon are additional programs and services aimed at keeping pets in homes, such as a pet food pantry, affordable pet training options, and temporary housing for pets when families are in crisis. Future programs will be offered in partnership with human-service organizations throughout our community, maximizing impact and changing lives for the better.
