Adjunct Professor, Mathematics, Arcadia University/Jiangsu University (China) Joint Program

Job Description: Arcadia University in Glenside, Pennsylvania, and Jiangsu University in Zhenjiang, China, have an articulation agreement through which students in the School of Mathematical Sciences at Jiangsu University transfer to Arcadia University to complete their bachelor's degrees.

Arcadia University is seeking multiple qualified adjunct mathematics instructors to teach undergraduate mathematics courses to approximately 60 students, divided into two sections, at Jiangsu University. Courses are delivered through a combination of in-person instruction in China and online instruction from the United States, depending on the course and semester schedule, starting in the fall of 2026.
The program offers a unique opportunity to teach highly motivated mathematics students while gaining international teaching experience. Travel expenses are covered; instructors are provided on-campus lodging in the faculty hotel, receive a per diem during their stay, and are compensated competitively on a per-course, per-section basis.

For compensation purposes:
• Each in-person section is compensated as a full course.
• Each online section is compensated as one-half of a course, since online instruction occurs for approximately half of the semester.

Because of the breadth of the curriculum, multiple adjunct faculty members will be hired, with assignments based on each instructor's expertise.

Qualified instructors may teach one or more of the following undergraduate courses:
• Calculus I
• Calculus II
• Calculus III
• Linear Algebra
• Differential Equations
• Discrete Mathematics
• Probability Theory
• Mathematical Statistics I
• Stochastic Processes
• Numerical Analysis
• Real Analysis
• Functional Analysis
• Financial Mathematics / Actuarial Mathematics

Teaching assignments will be based on qualifications, experience, and program needs.

Location: Combination of in-person instruction in China and online instruction from the United States

Essential Functions:

Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
1. Providing undergraduate mathematics instruction to students in one or more assigned courses.
2. Teaching assigned courses either:
- In person at Jiangsu University for a minimum of six weeks (with opportunities for longer appointments), or
- Online from the United States, depending on course scheduling.
3. Holding regular office hours (approximately 1–2 hours per week as needed).
4. Preparing course materials, assignments, examinations, and grading in accordance with Arcadia University academic standards.
5. Submitting final grades by the required university deadlines.
6. Coordinating with faculty and program administrators at both Arcadia University and Jiangsu University to ensure high-quality instruction and student success.
Additional Responsibilities may include:
• Participating in occasional faculty meetings or curriculum discussions

Qualifications:

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Ability to teach undergraduate mathematics courses at the collegiate level.
• Ability to teach either:
- in person at Jiangsu University in China for at least six weeks, or
- online from the United States for at least one-half of a semester.
• Chinese language proficiency is not required.
• Experience teaching undergraduate mathematics or closely related subjects.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Experience with online teaching platforms (e.g., Canvas and Zoom) is preferred.
• Stable internet connection and appropriate computer equipment for online instruction.
• International teaching or travel experience is preferred but not required.
Minimum Qualifications
• Master's degree or higher in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Engineering, or another closely related quantitative discipline.
• Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the listed mathematics subject areas.
• Prior college or university teaching experience is preferred.

Applicants with doctoral degrees, industry experience, or specialized expertise in advanced mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, computational mathematics, or engineering are especially encouraged to apply.
