The Adjunct Instructor of Information Systems and Cybersecurity is a part-time faculty position employed for a specific assignment and specified academic term with primary responsibilities for teaching assigned undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Data Analytics, and related computing disciplines. The position is intended to support course coverage, student learning, and program needs within the Division of Computer Science and Technology. Courses may be offered face-to-face, hybrid, online synchronous, or online asynchronous, based on departmental scheduling needs.

The adjunct faculty member is expected to provide high-quality instruction, prepare and maintain course materials in accordance with institutional and departmental guidelines, use the University learning management system effectively, assess student learning, communicate with students in a timely and professional manner, and support successful completion of assigned courses. This position will report directly to the Chair of the Computer Science & Technology Division.

Essential Functions

Teach assigned courses in Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Computer Science, or related computing fields according to departmental needs.
Deliver instruction in face-to-face, hybrid, online synchronous, or online asynchronous formats using appropriate instructional technologies and teaching strategies.
Prepare, maintain, and use a course syllabus for each assigned course in accordance with institutional and departmental guidelines.
Develop or update instructional materials, assignments, quizzes, exams, rubrics, lab activities, discussion activities, and other course resources as needed for assigned courses.
Maintain an organized course shell in the learning management system, including weekly modules, assignments, due dates, gradebook setup, announcements, and instructional materials.
Provide timely grading, feedback, and communication to students regarding course expectations, academic progress, and performance.
Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, student submissions, and course-related documentation as required by the University and department.
Assess student learning outcomes for assigned courses and submit required course-level assessment information, grade records, reflections, or reports when requested.
Use appropriate hands-on activities, labs, case studies, projects, simulations, or applied assignments to support student learning in Information Systems and/or Cybersecurity.
Hold reasonable office hours or provide scheduled student support availability, either in person or virtually, consistent with adjunct teaching expectations and course modality.
Follow University policies related to academic integrity, student privacy, accessibility, classroom conduct, grading, attendance, and timely communication.
Participate in limited course-related meetings, orientation, training, or professional development required for adjunct instructors.
Use University systems and academic technologies effectively, including the learning management system, email, gradebook, productivity tools, and other instructional platforms.
Demonstrate professionalism, cultural competency, and the ability to work effectively with diverse students, faculty, staff, and community populations.
Perform other course-related duties as assigned that logically relate to adjunct instruction and student learning in the assigned discipline.

Cybersecurity: Information Security, Network Security, Cybersecurity Essentials, Ethical Hacking, Digital Forensics, Incident Response, Security Operations, Cyber Threat Intelligence, Security Governance, Cyber Risk Management, NIST Framework, Cybersecurity Management, and related areas.

Depending on qualifications and departmental needs, the adjunct faculty member may teach in one discipline area or across both Information Systems and Cybersecurity.
The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that logically relate to the position. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong knowledge in Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Data Analytics, Computer Science, or a closely related computing discipline.
Ability to teach undergraduate and/or graduate students using clear, organized, student-centered instructional methods.
Ability to support applied learning through projects, labs, case studies, demonstrations, simulations, or discipline-relevant examples.
Familiarity with instructional technologies and learning management systems such as Canvas, Blackboard, or comparable platforms.
Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, and administrators in oral and written formats.
Ability to manage course deadlines, grading, attendance, student communication, and course documentation in a timely manner.
Ability to handle confidential student information professionally and in compliance with institutional policies.
Commitment to student success, academic quality, diversity, equity, inclusion, and professional conduct.
Adaptability to changing instructional needs, course modalities, academic calendars, and technology platforms.
For Information Systems courses, preferred technical knowledge may include SQL, database design, Python, R, data visualization, business intelligence tools, systems analysis, enterprise applications, cloud systems, analytics, or project management tools.
For Cybersecurity courses, preferred technical knowledge may include network security, Linux/Windows security, vulnerability assessment, ethical hacking tools, incident response, digital forensics, SIEM concepts, risk management, NIST CSF, governance and compliance, or security operations.
Familiarity with Jenzabar technology suite for higher education.
Moderate physical activity. Requires handling objects of average weight up to fifty (50) pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.

Minimum Requirements

Master's degree in Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
At least 18 graduate credit hours in the teaching discipline or documented academic preparation appropriate to the assigned course area.
Demonstrated ability or potential to provide effective instruction in Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or related computing courses.
Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications, instructional technology, and learning management systems.
Evidence of plans to continue scholarly and professional growth. 
Teaching experience at the college level, including experience as a teaching assistant while in graduate school.
The potential to have a positive impact through service that represents the University on campus and within the greater community.
Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule that may include working nights and weekends.

Preferred Requirements

Prior teaching experience in higher education, including face-to-face, hybrid, online, or asynchronous course delivery. 
Professional experience in Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Data Analytics, IT Management, security operations, risk management, database systems, business analytics, or related fields.
An earned doctorate or terminal degree in a related discipline is preferred but not required for adjunct appointment.
Relevant professional certifications are preferred, such as CompTIA Security+, Network+, CySA+, CEH, CISSP, CISM, CISA, AWS, Azure, Cisco, PMP, CAPM, Google Data Analytics, Microsoft, or comparable credentials.
Experience developing or teaching hands-on labs, applied projects, virtual labs, cybersecurity exercises, database projects, analytics assignments, or case-based learning activities.
Experience teaching or supporting diverse student populations, first-generation students, adult learners, international students, or online learners.
Familiarity with higher education systems such as Canvas, Blackboard, Jenzabar, PowerCampus, LinkedIn Learning, or comparable academic technologies.
