Position Overview

The School of Education at the University of North Texas at Dallas (UNT Dallas) seeks qualified adjunct faculty to provide high-quality instruction in teacher education and related education courses. Adjunct faculty contributes to the preparation of future educators through effective teaching, student engagement, assessment, and collaboration with university and school-based partners.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master's degree or higher in Special Education, Exceptional Student Education, Educational Psychology, Curriculum and Instruction, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
• Demonstrated professional expertise in special education.
• Experience teaching or supporting students with disabilities in EC–12 educational settings or demonstrated higher education teaching experience in special education.
• Knowledge of special education assessment, instruction, and IEP development practices.

• Ability to engage and support undergraduate and graduate students.
• Ability to use instructional technology and learning management systems effectively.
• Ability to connect educational theory with authentic PK–12 practice.

Preferred Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in education or a related field.
• Current or recent PK–12 teaching or administrative experience.
• Texas EC–12 Special Education certification or equivalent special education certification.
• Prior college or university teaching experience.
• Experience working with special education teacher candidates, clinical teaching, field experiences, or educator preparation programs.
• Familiarity with Texas educator preparation standards, TEA requirements, and special educator certification examinations.
• Experience with learning management systems and technology-enhanced instruction.

Job Duties

• Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in special education, consistent with approved course descriptions and the requirements of the EC–12 Special Education educator preparation program.
• Prepare and deliver course content using effective, evidence-based instructional practices appropriate for face-to-face, online, hybrid, or other assigned instructional formats.
• Develop and maintain course materials, syllabi, assessments, assignments, and instructional resources consistent with program and course expectations.
• Provide timely and meaningful feedback to students and maintain accurate student records and grades.
• Establish a supportive learning environment that promotes student engagement, academic success, and professional development.
• Incorporate current educational research, professional standards, technology, and relevant PK–12 practices into instruction.
• Support teacher candidates in developing the knowledge and competencies necessary for successful completion of Texas educator certification requirements and effective practice as EC–12 special education teachers.
• Collaborate with CEHD faculty, staff, university supervisors, school district partners, and other stakeholders as appropriate.
• Participate in required faculty meetings, orientations, professional development, training, and course coordination activities.
• Communicate regularly with the program coordinator or designated faculty supervisor regarding course progress, student concerns, and instructional needs.
• Submit required course materials, attendance information, grades, and other documentation by established deadlines.
• Maintain professional knowledge and expertise in the assigned teaching area. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Work Schedule

Adjunct faculty assignments may vary by semester and may include face-to-face, online, hybrid, evening, or other instructional formats based on program needs and course scheduling.
