Job Description

The Department of American Indian Studies at Augsburg University invites applications for adjunct faculty positions to teach undergraduate courses in 2027. 

This search will establish a “pool” of instructors for potential openings in Spring of 2027. Applications will be accepted through November 30, 2026.

Available courses vary by term. Most classes are held during the day, 2-3 days per week. In addition to teaching the class and grading student work, instructors are expected to respond to student questions through email, hold regularly scheduled office hours, reach out to students with course progress information, and communicate regularly with the course coordinator. A course syllabus with calendar, textbook and homework selection, sample activities and exams, and shared office space are typically provided. Most classes are taught in-person on our Minneapolis campus. Each course requires approximately 12-15 hours/week for 15-16 weeks. 

The successful candidate will possess both a high level of intercultural competency and a commitment to inclusive practice and authentic representation.
The collective bargaining agreement with SEIU, Local 284, covers adjunct teaching at Augsburg University.

Compensation & Benefits
Subject to the collective bargaining agreement with SEIU, Local 284

• $6,100 to $6,475 per undergraduate course* for the 2026-27 academic year
• Eligible for 2-4% retirement contribution match

*Course refers to a typical 4-credit undergraduate or 3-credit graduate course that has met minimum enrollment requirements.

Please note that due to employment law and payroll regulations, we can only employ adjunct faculty who reside in and work from Minnesota or Wisconsin. This restriction also applies to online courses.
 

Qualifications

An advanced degree in American Indian Studies (Masters or PhD) or closely related field.

Experience as instructor of record (preferred).
