Position Summary

Dominican University's Brennan School of Business seeks part-time Adjunct Faculty to teach one or more Accounting course sections during the Spring 2027 semester, at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Available sections span introductory financial accounting, cost accounting, managerial accounting for MBA students, and financial reporting for the Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) program. Candidates may apply for a single section or indicate interest in multiple sections.

Available Course Sections

ACCT 101-02: Financial Accounting (Undergraduate)

Tuesday/Thursday, 11:10 AM – 12:25 PM | On Campus | January 11 – May 7, 2027

This course introduces students to the language and concepts of accounting. Students learn how to summarize financial data and begin to prepare financial reports such as the balance sheet and income statement. Topics in this course emphasize the accounting cycle and the valuation of assets, liabilities, and owners' equity.

ACCT 102-03: Managerial Accounting (Undergraduate)

Tuesday/Thursday, 1:00 PM – 2:15 PM | On Campus | January 11 – May 7, 2027

This course builds upon financial accounting and introduces students to managerial concepts and problems. Students learn how managers use accounting to make decisions concerning day-to-day operations. Topics in this course emphasize cost determination and decision-making. (Prerequisite: ACCT 101)

ACCT 210: Cost Accounting (Undergraduate)

Online, Asynchronous | January 11 – May 7, 2027

This course examines a company's cost of production via assessing costs at each step within the production process. Building upon ACCT 102, students learn how cost accounting techniques assist management in making decisions in the planning process. Topics include cost behavioral analysis, cost-volume-profit relationships, transfer pricing, and activity-based costing. (Prerequisite: ACCT 102)

ACCT 604-01: Accounting for Managers (Graduate MBA program)

Monday, 6:30 PM – 9:20 PM | On Campus | January 11 – May 7, 2027

This course explores key accounting topics relevant for business managers. Topics include both financial accounting, with a focus on financial statements and statement analysis, and managerial accounting and the internal cost concepts for managing product costs and operating processes. The emphasis is on the use of financial information (the outputs) rather than the accumulation and processing of accounting data (the inputs).

ACCT 719-01: Financial Reporting III (Graduate MSA program)

Online, Asynchronous | 8-Week Session (Spring 1) | January 11 – March 5, 2027

This course examines investments in debt and equity securities, revenue recognition, postretirement and income tax accounting, leases, error analysis, cash flow statements, and the importance of full disclosures in accounting. 

Essential Instructional Responsibilities

Adjunct faculty are appointed on a course-by-course basis and are responsible for delivering high-quality instruction, engaging students, and supporting achievement of course learning outcomes. Essential responsibilities include:

• Deliver course instruction consistent with the approved syllabus and learning outcomes.
• Prepare instructional materials, assignments, and assessments appropriate to the discipline.
• Foster an engaging and inclusive learning environment that supports student success.
• Submit grades and required academic records accurately and on time.
• Maintain reasonable availability to students, including scheduled office hours.
• Respond to student communications in a timely manner.
• Administer course evaluations.
• Follow university academic policies and student accommodation procedures.
• Coordinate with the Associate Dean and the Department Chair regarding course delivery and academic matters.

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree in Accounting, or a Master's degree in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting, from an AACSB-accredited institution.
• Demonstrated understanding of foundational accounting principles appropriate to introductory-level instruction.
• Active CPA (Certified Public Accountant) licensure, or an equivalent professional accounting credential such as CMA (Certified Management Accountant), CIA (Certified Internal Auditor), or EA (Enrolled Agent).
• At least three to five years of professional experience in financial reporting, managerial accounting, auditing, corporate accounting, or a closely related field such as taxation.
• Demonstrated expertise in the application of accounting standards and reporting practices at a level appropriate for graduate instruction.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior college-level teaching experience.
• Experience teaching Accounting in person or online, preferably in an asynchronous format for online sections.
• Experience using Canvas or another learning management system.
• Relevant professional or applied experience in Accounting.

Compensation

• Salary Range: $3,000 - $4,500 per course
• Compensation is based on credentials, experience, course level, and credit hours.
• FLSA Status: Exempt, Part-Time (Adjunct Faculty)

Physical Demands

• Ability to spend long durations of the workday sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
