Calling all college students! Planning to intern during the summer of 2027? Kick-off your career at Selective Insurance by joining our award-winning Ignite Internship program at our corporate office in Short Hills, NJ.

The Ignite Internship Program is an 11-week, full-time experience that offers a sneak peek into the world of insurance. Level up your skills and knowledge by diving into your business area of choice.

Throughout the program, you’ll get a feel for the corporate environment with on-the-job assignments, team projects, exposure to senior leadership & executives, and even a community volunteer day. All of this and more will help you build meaningful relationships throughout the organization.

The Actuarial Department is responsible for setting the company’s rate and reserve levels to ensure appropriate pricing and adequate reserve levels are maintained. The department provides experience reports, underwriting tools, and strategic guidance, and we are responsible for the construction of predictive models related to pricing. As a summer intern, you will work directly with experienced actuaries to gain hands-on, relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform pricing and experience analyses.
• Prepare data and templates for quarterly loss and LAE reserve analyses.
• Prepare special reports, data compilations, analysis of company and industry experience, and other ad hoc analysis requests.
• Implement and suggest improvements and efficiencies to current processes.
• Develop a foundational knowledge of the functions performed by the Actuarial Department, and how the unit relates to other functional areas of the organization.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Requirements

• Effective communication and interpersonal skills. 
• Proficient with Microsoft Office, specifically Word and Excel.
• Experience with programming languages or statistical modeling packages (e.g., SQL, Access, R, Python, etc.) a plus.
• Be currently working towards an applicable degree or have relevant classroom experience, preferably majoring in Actuarial Science, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), or another analytical field.
• College credit can be earned depending on your institution’s requirements.

Education and Experience

• High School Diploma required. Ideal internship candidates will be full-time undergraduate college Juniors or Seniors, with the ability to perform at a professional level.

The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, performance, and business needs.

Pay Range

USD $22.00 - USD $25.00 /Hr.
