Job Description
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Activity Aide implements instructions of the Director of Activities or designated representative to accomplish an activities program for Jewish Home residents.
DUTIES:
Shall include but are not limited to:
- Conduct activities on assigned units daily. Such programs include recreational, religious, intellectual, social, service oriented and exercise which may include outings.
- Maintain one-to- one contact with residents as planned and informs Director of Activities of specific needs of the residents.
- Transport or escort residents to and from programs pushing wheel chairs and activity carts.
- Able to work independently and as a part of the activities and floor teams.
- Ensure program compliance; i.e. documentation and conducting activities per Department of Health regulations.
- Participate in the care planning process including MDS documentation. Attend weekly patient care plan meetings, maintain initial assessments and progress notes in residents' charts.
- Communicate with nursing staff concerning residents' needs, capabilities, and circumstances that might inhibit or prevent residents from participating in activity or outing.
- Maintain daily statistics on resident participation.
- Evaluate recreation programs with the Director of Activities.
- Maintain supplies and equipment.
- Keep program area and storage areas clean and orderly.
- Act in a professional and respectful manner always, when working with residents, residents' families, and Jewish Home staff.
- Keep confidential all medical and personal information pertaining to residents and their families.
- Initiate and follow up on interdepartmental communication.
- Attend in-services, conferences, etc. and present them to staff as requested by Director of Activities.
- Possess knowledge of fire safety procedures and carries out these procedures during fire drills and emergencies.
- Provide visits to meet the needs of all residents.
- Contributes and writes articles for monthly calendar/newsletter and distributes same.
- Responsible for physical set up, clean ups and set up in department and on unit, sorting, pulling, and moving supplies and/or furniture.
- Photograph special events, etc. and assist in maintaining photo board and photo albums.
- Assist in arranging and coordinating public relations matters.
- Perform other related work as required.
- CPR Certified or eligible to become certified
- May serve as a counselor to the resident council.
- Able to work flexible hours.
- Able to work weekends and holidays on a rotation basis.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
High school diploma or GED and preferred 1 - 3 years recreation/activities experience in a structured assistive living or long-term care facility or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess good written and excellent verbal communications and organizational skills. The ability to facilitate positive relations with residents, family members, and other departments. Desire to work with older and vulnerable adults, who need rehabilitation, memory care and long-term care.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Performs repetitive motions including bending, twisting, stooping, pushing, pulling. Required to use hands to repetitively finger, handle, feel or reach, must be able to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
Current NYS Driver's License
