Summary
The Academy Teacher is responsible for instructing students in math, reading, language arts, and science to prepare them for the ACT. They also develop weekly plans, monitor student progress through baseline testing, and engage with student families.

Position Description: Charged with ensuring that our students are ready to provide their best effort on the ACT and with assisting them in developing the skills they will need to succeed. Each of the four ACT sections must be thoroughly understood by a candidate for the ACT.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Academic Support
- Teach all subjects in light of ACT requirements: math, reading, language arts, and science.
- Establishes specific goals for each class, topic, and project and inform students of those goals.
- Assist students with writing skills.
- Activities
- With the Education Coordinator, develop mechanisms for engaging student families in The Academy program and student learning.
- Supervision
- Develop, maintain, and adjust a weekly plan for The Academy.
- Evaluation
- Conduct baseline testing of students and monitor progress.
- Provide periodic evaluations to parents.

- Expected Hours of Work
- Standard days of work are Tuesdays & Thursdays, from 1pm -3pm
- Required Education and Experience
- Ability to explain and instruct students at a basic level.
- Strong knowledge in content area of choice, demonstrated through lesson planning, execution, and intervention with all students.
- Excellent communications skills, both spoken and written

What began in 1937 as a courageous fight for victims of discrimination in the Deep South quickly broadened to include outreach ministries of compassion providing essential daily needs of food, clothing and shelter to the poor.
Today, Edmundite Missions continues as the area’s largest and most respected nonprofit organization, addressing the overwhelming prevalence of homelessness, extreme poverty and hunger. We are a proven innovator in providing responsive solutions that address some of the most pressing issues affecting the rural poor.
Our current outreach programs include:
o The Bosco Nutrition Center in Selma - a nurtrion center serving a hot, nutritious lunch and dinner 365 days a year. In 2019, we served over 300,000 meals.
o Meals of Hope – delivering nutritious meals to homebound elderly and disabled.
o Food Pantries – providing both meals and grocery bags of nutritious food from our centers located in the rural communities Pine Apple, Mosses and Vredenburgh, Alabama and New Orleans.
o Catholic Social Services – a program that exclusively helps families, children and seniors who have suffered a catastrophic emergency; need utility and/or rental assistance, clothing and prescription assistance; and/or require help securing transportation to doctor visits.
o Family Emergency Housing - currently providing emergency shelter for those displaced by a home fire, in need of shelter during inclement weather, about to be evicted from their residence or who are completely homeless.
