Job Summary:
The Program Secretary is responsible for assisting the Academic Coordinator and Program Director with day-to-day operations and data support for the Upward Bound Program.
Position Duties:
Prepare correspondence from staff.
Assure proper admission documents and other correspondence documents are maintained in participant’s files.
Assist Program Director with data collection.
Provide program information to those who inquire by phone or in the program office.
Process reports and related information about the program.
Maintain computerized tracking system.
Create on-line monthly newsletter of Upward Bound participants and parents.
Report directly to the program director.
Must be punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of performance, including, but not limited to attendance standards and work deadlines; beginning and ending assignments on time; and scheduled work breaks, where applicable.
Maintain courteous, professional and effective working relationships with employees, target high schools and/or any other representatives of external organization.
Comply with all College policies and procedures
Assist the Director of Upward Bound Trio Programs by performing other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Proficient at typing and word processing.
Strong English language skills.
Demonstrated competency in filing and data collection.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to relate well to high school students.
Knowledge and skills in basic computer applications.
Background similar to that of participants preferred.
Familiar with web-based application.
Ability to work independently, as well as on a team.
Ability to work and maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
Good communications skills, both written and spoken.
Ability to organize and prioritize work. Work well under deadline pressures.
Excellent human relations skills. Ability to work with individuals from a variety of backgrounds.
Have a valid drivers license.
Required Education Background:
High School diploma or equivalent
Required Experience:
A minimum of six months of clerical experience is required.
Experience in an educational setting preferred.
Must exhibit training, sensitivity and commitment to the needs of students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time; ability to move freely around the campus and outreach centers; ability to lift up to 20 pounds; ability to bend, stoop, reach and grasp as required to perform responsibilities; ability to drive motor vehicle; and ability to work on the computer for long periods of time.
Work Environment:
Work performed in an office environment.
