2027 Summer Internship - Group Risk Control - Raleigh

Your role

Interested in using financial data, analytical thinking, and emerging technology to help safeguard global business, but not sure where to start? Do you want to explore how artificial intelligence can strengthen risk management, improve decision-making, and make the way we work more effective?

We’re looking for ambitious and curious students to join our 2027 Summer Internship Program within Group Risk Control in Raleigh, NC.

As an intern, you’ll gain practical experience across financial risk management while working alongside colleagues who identify, assess, monitor, and report risks across the firm. You’ll also explore how data, automation, and AI can support better risk insights, stronger controls, and more efficient processes.

You’ll get to:

• support risk identification, assessment, monitoring, analysis, and reporting across areas such as credit, market, treasury, model, and enterprise risk
• analyze financial and non-financial data to identify trends, anomalies, emerging risks, and opportunities for improved risk management
• contribute to portfolio reviews, risk assessments, scenario analysis, risk modeling, or regulatory-related initiatives
• help improve recurring reports, dashboards, data
processes, and risk-related systems
• map existing business processes and identify where data, automation, or AI could reduce manual effort, improve consistency, or enhance decision support
• experiment with approved AI tools to research, summarize, analyze, or communicate information, with appropriate validation and human oversight
• evaluate the quality of AI-assisted outputs by checking accuracy, relevance, reliability, data quality, and appropriate use
• collaborate with risk specialists, data professionals, technology colleagues, and business stakeholders on practical projects
• communicate findings and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
• contribute to an intern innovation project focused on a real risk or control challenge

Your team

You’ll be working in Group Risk Control in Raleigh, NC.

Group Risk Control is responsible for identifying, assessing, advising on, monitoring, and reporting financial risks. In Raleigh, colleagues work across a range of capabilities that include risk identification, quantitative modelling, scenario analysis, treasury risk, model validation, credit risk, and risk frameworks.

You’ll join a collaborative environment where risk expertise, data, technology, and sound judgment come together. You’ll learn from experienced colleagues and have opportunities to engage with teams across different risk disciplines.

Your expertise

We’re looking for a candidate who:

• will graduate between December 2027 and June 2028
• has a cumulative GPA of 3.2 and above
• demonstrates an interest in risk management, financial services, data, business analysis, or emerging technology
• has strong analytical and problem-solving skills and can approach unfamiliar questions in a structured way
• can interpret data, identify meaningful patterns, and explain conclusions clearly
• communicates effectively and can convey complex ideas to different audiences
• works collaboratively, takes ownership, and is comfortable operating in a fast-moving environment with high standards and real deadlines
• demonstrates values aligned with ours: hard-working, trustworthy, dedicated, and collaborative
• is curious about AI and can explain how its responsible and experimental use could improve an academic, professional, or personal project
• is willing to learn new tools and can adapt as technologies and business needs evolve

It would be an advantage if you have exposure to one or more of the following:

•Excel, data visualization, or dashboarding tools
•Python, R, SQL, or another analytical tool
•statistics, financial modeling, data science, econometrics, or quantitative methods
•generative AI concepts such as prompt design, retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings, or AI agents
•workflow automation, low-code tools, APIs, or process redesign

You don’t need to be an AI engineer or have experience with every tool listed above. We’re more interested in your ability to learn, apply sound judgment, work responsibly with data and technology, and connect analytical ideas to real business problems.

We welcome students from all majors. Relevant fields may include finance, economics, business, accounting, mathematics, statistics, data science, computer science, engineering, information systems, public policy, or other analytical disciplines. Interest in the financial industry and risk management is more important than following one specific academic path.

We want to understand what makes you unique and what you could bring to our team. Perhaps you have used data to solve a problem, experimented responsibly with AI, organized a fundraising event, contributed to a team, built a dashboard, automated a repetitive task, or stepped outside your comfort zone to learn a challenging subject. Tell us what you learned, how you approached the challenge, and how your experience relates to the skills we’re looking for.

Your program

During your 10-week paid internship, you’ll work with our experts and learn about the financial industry, our clients, and our firm.

You’ll be at the heart of the business, learning from colleagues and contributing to day-to-day activities and meaningful projects. You’ll receive guidance from managers, mentors, and peers, while building relationships across Group Risk Control and the wider Raleigh organization.

The program will provide opportunities to:
