2027 Corporate Finance Summer Internship Program

The Corporate Finance team at United Wholesale Mortgage (UWM) manages financial planning, analysis, and reporting, driving the company's financial strategy and supporting decision-making. Interns will gain hands-on experience in financial modeling, budgeting, forecasting, and data analysis, contributing to key projects that shape UWM's financial future.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

FINANCE TRANSFORMATION 

The Finance Transformation internship role entails focusing on delivering on our finance transformation strategy, which includes transformation and automation projects to enable operational efficiencies, optimize costs, minimize complexity & risk, and realize value within Finance and other functions.

• Learn about the Finance Transformation strategy, including its governance model.
• Collaborate with business process owners to document current processes using process and data flows.
• Assist in defining and designing the future state and documenting the new processes.
• Develop and implement new solutions using an agreed automation tool (i.e., Alteryx).
• Create test cases for Quality Assurance (QA) testing of new solutions.
• Execute and document functional and QA testing.
• Assist with the validation of new solutions with business process owners.
• Assist with training and raising awareness about new solutions for business process owners.
• Maintain regular and proactive communication with the team regarding status and challenges.

NICE TO HAVE QUALIFICATIONS:

• Willingness to learn new technical languages (coding) and related skills
• Coding skills like SQL, Python, etc
• Graduating with a bachelor's degree in 2027 (Must be Senior status for this role)

FINANCIAL REPORTING

The Financial Reporting team at UWM is responsible for preparing accurate financial statements and reports, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and providing insightful analysis to support strategic decision-making.

• Monthly Balance Sheet Reconciliations
• Assist with Quarter-end Financials, Earnings Release and 10Q filing
• Assist with month-end entries – leases, stock compensation etc.
• Assist with preparation of the GAAP and SEC checklists
• Assist with Ad Hoc projects and tasks

VALUATION AND FP&A

The Finance ‘Valuation and FP&A’ internship role involves assisting with daily, monthly, and quarterly analysis of MSR capitalization grids and fair valuation model assumptions using in-house tools. This role also involves overseeing valuations of closed loans and rate locks and supporting new product activities to ensure financial compliance and accurate reporting. Additionally, in the FP&A capacity, the role supports monthly reporting, variance analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and other relevant financial analyses.

Valuation:

• Learn and support daily, monthly, and quarterly MSR capitalization and fair valuation model analysis.
• Monitor daily MSR capitalized values and analyze lock volume and par sensitivity using the MSR capitalization grid.
• Compare UWM's risk profile against industry values.
• Manage month-end valuation assumptions, track key data points, evaluate assumptions, and stress test before recommending changes.
• Assist with research and analysis of industry MSR valuation data.
• Monitor MSR capitalized value at the point of sale to ensure accuracy.
• Maintain a tracker for month-over-month changes in FV management assumptions.
• Collaborate with UWM business partners.
• Support ad-hoc business needs, historical trend analysis, and create forward-looking analyses using internal tools.

FP&A:

• Perform financial forecasting, reporting, and operational metrics tracking.
• Conduct monthly and quarterly analytical processes for internal management reporting.
• Report on financial performance and prepare for leadership reviews.
• Analyze past results, perform variance analysis, and identify trends.
• Compare and analyze actual results with plans and forecasts.
• Update financial models to support strategic initiatives.
• Research, analyze, and synthesize data from multiple sources.
• Identify and implement process improvements, creating standard and ad-hoc reports/models.
• Support the management team with data-driven analysis.

NICE TO HAVE QUALIFICATIONS:

• Proficient in Excel and quick to learn tools like Alteryx, SQL, Workday.

INTERNAL AUDIT & CONTROLS

The Internal Audit & Controls internship role entails executing on our annual internal audits and Sarbanes-Oxley internal controls audit, which includes auditing various business units, learning about the mortgage industry and compliance factors subject to audit, auditing controls to address risks of material misstatement in the Company's financial statements, and applying audit procedures to business units and IT general controls.

• Perform independent testing of controls, processes, and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with business leaders to identify risks and improve control environments.
• Identify opportunities to strengthen controls, improve operational efficiency, and support the achievement of organizational objectives.
• Perform tests of design walkthroughs for business processes and Information Technology internal controls with key stakeholders.
• Build analytical and problem-solving skills by helping identify control risks, validating remediation efforts, and contributing to initiatives that strengthen the organization's technology control environment.
• Assist in evaluating IT processes and controls, including user provisioning and deprovisioning, privileged access management, change control procedures, and key IT operational processes.
• Assist with the recommendation of remediation solutions with control owners.
• Assist with various initiatives involving the execution of the audit and documenting new business processes.

NICE TO HAVE QUALIFICATIONS:

• Willingness to learn about auditing, internal controls, and related skills.
• Desire to achieve a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) certification.

TAX

The Tax Summer Team Member will assist the Tax team with a variety of tasks related to tax compliance and financial analysis. This internship provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a corporate finance environment and develop skills in tax functions.

• Collaborate with leadership to document current processes using process and data flows
• Research and analysis
• Help prepare presentations and reports for senior management
• Support the team in research on tax regulations and compliance requirements
• Assist with tax planning and analysis projects

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

MUST HAVE

• Graduating with a bachelor’s degree in 2027 or 2028 (current junior/senior status) (Please note: Some roles require Senior status)
• The ability to work Monday through Friday, 40-hours a week, fully on-site in Pontiac, MI from May 17th - August 6th

NICE TO HAVE

• Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Auditing, or a related business discipline.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize, organize, and deliver quality work with attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
