We are hiring two Controllers Interns to join our firm for the Summer of 2027. Below you will find a short description of the internship opportunities supporting various disciplines within our Controllers organization. You will be immersed in a collaborative environment and an active participant in team discussions. Additionally, you will meet and network with professionals across Schwab.

A successful internship could lead to a full-time opportunity with Schwab’s Finance Rotational Program.

This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain exposure to the teams in our Controllers/Accounting department. You will have the opportunity to support areas including:

• Accounting Policy

• Bank Accounting

• SEC and Bank Regulatory Reporting
• Broker-dealer Accounting

• Corporate Accounting and Consolidations
• Compensation and Other Specialty Accounting

Participation and interaction with the staff of these functional areas will help develop fundamental skills and broaden the candidate’s perspective of the critical role accountants and finance professionals play in the day-to-day operations of a leading investment services firm like Schwab. The role emphasizes analytical thinking, attention to detail, and ownership of assigned deliverables.

The summer internship is the primary pipeline for full-time opportunities into our Finance Rotational Program. At the conclusion of your internship, you will be considered for a full-time role beginning the following summer.  Our Finance Rotation Program is designed to build the skill sets and exposure for a successful career across the entire CFO organization.

• All Finance departments participate in the rotation program, with each rotation providing an opportunity to build new skills:
• Enterprise Finance: Develop FP&A experience with various business units and business partners such as Investor Services and Advisor Services.
• Central Finance: Develop budgeting, forecasting, and reporting experience in support of corporate leadership.
• Treasury: Develop experience supporting balance sheet management and other Treasury functions such as capital markets and securities lending.
• Controllers/Accounting: Develop experience with creating, managing, and reporting the financial results of a large financial institution.
• Investor Relations: Develop experience sharing Schwab's story with analysts and investors
• Finance Innovation and Technology: Develop experience with finance systems and data
• Finance Risk Management: Develop experience enhancing how the Finance team manages risk
• Participants will experience a full range of Finance responsibilities including planning, analytical, and project-oriented assignments in addition to reporting & transactional deliverables.

As an intern you will:

• Support monthly and quarterly financial, SEC, and regulatory reporting activities.
• Assist with the accounting for ongoing transactions and business activity, reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
• Research accounting and regulatory guidance to support accurate disclosures and filings.
• Contribute to reporting, presentations, process improvements, automation, and audit-related projects.
• Gain exposure to Schwab's Finance organization through cross-functional collaboration, job shadowing, and an inclusive culture.

What you have

Required Qualifications

• Current student pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Interest in accounting, accounting policy, financial reporting, regulatory reporting, or corporate finance.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate financial information and draw logical conclusions.
• Attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, well-documented work.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and incorporate feedback effectively.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel and PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications

• Data query, analysis, and organization skills, including SQL, python, and Alteryx or similar tools
• Fluency in AI tools and applications
• Curiosity to learn and apply US GAAP and SEC, broker-dealer, and banking regulatory requirements
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact with internal business partners
• Excellent organizational skills, enabling one to manage multiple priorities
• Ability to work independently and adapt to change in a highly productive and ever-changing environment
• Ability and desire to build strong relationships and work effectively with various levels of the organization throughout the Company
