College Information: The College of Social Sciences and Education, the largest college at CSUB, has an enrollment of more than 4,000 students composed of ten departments: Advanced Educational Studies, Human Development, Child, Adolescent, and Family Studies, Criminal Justice, Ethnic Studies, Kinesiology, Political Science, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, and Teacher Education. Department Information: The Department of Kinesiology is part of the College of Social Sciences and Education which also houses the Departments of Advanced Educational Studies, Anthropology, Criminal Justice, Ethnic Studies, Human Development/Child/Adolescent/ Family Studies, Liberal Studies, Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology. The college offers programs for teacher education, social work, and behavioral sciences. The Kinesiology Department offers a variety of undergraduate degree concentrations leading to a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology. The different concentrations include Applied Exercise Science, Allied Health, and Physical Activity Leadership. The Applied Exercise Science concentration prepares students to enter fields such as Corporate Fitness, Cardiac Rehabilitation, and Strength and Conditioning, as well as pursue an advanced degree in athletic training, exercise science, or related fields. The Allied Health concentration prepares students for graduate study in a variety of clinical fields (e.g., physical therapy, occupational therapy, chiropractic, physician assistant). The concentration in Physical Activity Leadership prepares students for careers in which they will be guiding clients through group exercise programing. Physical Education teaching is one of those fields. This concentration provides graduates with subject matter competency required to earn a credential in K-12 physical education teaching. The Department also offers a Master of Science in Kinesiology through the office of Extended Education. 

Position Description: The Department of Kinesiology at California State University Bakersfield accepts applications on an ongoing basis for our pool of part-time lecturers. 

Applicant pools are used to fill short-term temporary Lecturer positions across our campus with the possibility of rehiring. Appointments may last from one day to a whole semester. This applicant pool may be used to fill vacant positions on an as-needed basis throughout the academic year.  Applications in this pool ad will only be good for the current academic year. This pool will be closed effective May 31st.  If you wish to be considered for the next academic year, you will need to apply to the new pool as it becomes available by June 15^th.

Minimum Qualifications:

• For physical activity class lecturers: Certification in a specialty such as personal training, fitness instructor, skilled activity instruction (e.g. swimming, Yoga, etc.), strength and conditioning, and exercise specialist
• For kinesiology undergraduate and laboratory lecturers: A Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Physical Education, or related field
• For Athletic Training lecturers: Current NATA certification
• Demonstrated ability/potential to provide high-quality education to a diverse student population, including first‐generation and under-represented college students

• For kinesiology master’s degree courses: doctoral degree or master’s degree with substantial teaching experience or scholarship experience or professional certification

Preferred Qualifications:

• For physical activity class lecturers: A Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Physical Education, or related field
• For kinesiology undergraduate, general education, and laboratory lecturers: A Master's degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Physical Education, Sport Psychology, or a closely related discipline is preferred
• For PE teaching preparation lecturers: K through 12 PE teaching experience
• Candidates with demonstrated excellence in college teaching in the discipline and/or relevant industry experience and appropriate certification

Rank and Salary: Lecturer and salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience. Position’s appointment is subject to budgetary authorization.

The salary schedule information for the Lecturer - Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:

Lecturer AY (Range 2) - $5,507 - $6,677

Lecturer AY (Range 3) - $6,221 - $13,224

Lecturer AY (Range 4) - $6,825 - $14,523

Lecturer AY (Range 5) - $8,593 - $15,211

The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range, commensurate with education and experience. Salary will be pro-rated for part-time assignments.
